85% of the roster had less than 3 fights in 2012

ufc used to only have like three cards a year, wouldn't air prelims, and fighters didn't make anything to brag about. I would be grateful for my one or two fights.

This poll should only count for fighters who made their UFC debut by April at the latest. Because a figther who debuts in November and has 3 fights outside of UFC in that year but then just that 1 fight in UFC shouldn't count against the stats.

Hopefully there will be less injuries in the future but I also think they have too many on their roster than the fans can handle. They need to build more story behind the fighters so it's easy for the casuals to remember and recognize them.

You make a name for yourself by the way you fight. You can build up Colton Smith all you want. He even won Tuf 16. No thanks.

I do agree that they need to do some better marketing, but also as you point out, their roster is probably too large. So they have to pick and choose who they push, which can't satisfy everyone.

Now take that roster and add all the Strikeforce people in 2013. Given the injuries and number of cards, I think this is actually a good thing for some of the fighters with good reps. coming over. It's bad for some of those barely hanging on to their UFC jobs.

A lot of injuries for sure. My guess is there will be a lot less in the next 1-2 years.
I would bet that since the insurance plan took effect about a year ago, many fighters who really needed, or really should have got surgery are getting it now because the zuffa insurance makes it affordable to all zuffa fighters, not just the superstars.
In fact a lot of these injuries may be years old, but now they can finally fix them.

Hopefully we should have a lot of healed fighters coming back better than ever in the next year or so. And they should stay healthy for the most part now that they are taking care of the injuries correctly.

I agree with this. Plus you have the cover from the best Baroness album as your AV.

Hopefully these injuries will be lessened in coming years as guys tend to ones that have been plaguing them for a while.

If they phased out the smaller weight classes we could have more fights that people actually want to see instead of having them added to big drawing cards.

How do I get to see the fights I want to see when you have phased the fighters out?

Yea the ufc needs a womens division bad..... give me fkn break.

Not completely untrue. A lot of guys will fight once every 6 months. That means in a 12-14 month period they will fight 3 times but in a calender year from Jan-Dec they may only have 2 fights.

E.g. Jon Jones only fought twice in 2012 BUT from Sept 2011 - Sept 2012 he fought four times.

Youre grasping at straws. From Jan 1 till Dec 31, meaning a 12 month period, the overwhelming majority of fighters fought a staggering one time. Not two times, not three times, ONE time. How hard is this to understand.

Every time fight frequency is discussed, this has to be explained to people, at great length.

As Barbie once said "math is hard!".

"What do all these weird comma numbers and foreign words mean? I don't trust science that's not made in America" would seem like an appropriate DFW response.

*fewer

As someone said ^^ this will also include many mid-year or late in the year signings

This is a disturbing trend. I say less fighters but more fights!

They may not fight alot but they get paid huge money so it doesn't matter. Some of these guys are even get $10K just to show.

and there are more cards
If you include WEC cards before the merger, then they have had about the same number of events for a few years now. So likely a greater increase in roster size compared to the number of cards.

Booking cards 3-4 months in advance also plays a factor in lack of fights. That means somebody who fights in January, has no chance at fighting again until May at the earliest. Unless somebody gets injured and they jump into fight.

You'd think these guys would want to fight more considering most of them don't get paid all that much.
