Three Florence County, South Carolina, Sheriff's Office deputies and two city officers were shot Wednesday, chief deputy Glenn Kirby said, according to CNN affiliates.

The shootings took place during an active shooter incident, which is now over, the Florence County Emergency Management said on its Twitter page.

The extent of the injuries was not immediately known.

Details unclear right now. Suspect in custody

This is live right now. (Edit: no longer live*)

And 1 officer has died so far.

I just saw this on the local new man that’s awful and just goes to show how dangerous law enforcements job is, they catch a lot of hell for just how dangerous their job is and not to mention what they have to put up with each day they go into work to make a living.

Thoughts go out to their families and all involved

Terrible. Not many details out yet, hopefully the rest of my wounded brothers down in SC will recover.

Shitty all around.

Spent last weekend standing pointing a rifle at a house on a barricaded subject for 6 hours of my 12.5 hour shift.

This hits home cause our call could have easily ended up this way had the dude decided to duke it out with us, with any of the 20 weapons he had inside.

Be safe out there man, I might be rough on police behavior, but I want you guys to be safe and alive.

Swedish media is reporting one of the policemen has died (the source is USA Today), making the event even more tragic and disturbing than it already was.

It’s crazy to look back at your jobs and think what if. I try not to do it too much but when you hear stories of different officers handling a similar situation and shit going completely sideways it makes you wonder.

There are no manuals to chaos intervention.

Don't I wish there were, guidelines and protocols that work in every situation

Appreciate it brother. That call was one of those few times in policing shit was definitely real.

I was on the front door and if he had exited armed I would have been the one to have to shoot. Conversely I was the one who was most exposed if he had decided to come out guns blazing or fired from the house.

Glad he gave up after SWAT showed after a few hours. Everyone got to go home to their families safe, him included.

People use "he just wanted to get home to his family" to mock police officers, but they fail to appreciate that cops want situations resolved with a minimum of paperwork and hassle and investigations; that everyone gets where they're going intact

It's a tough job, dont let the scumbags ruin your humanity. Glad shit ended peacefully, I feel for officer that are forced to pull the trigger, it has to effect them forever. Hope you are never in one of those no win situations.

Lots of ppl don’t think long enough to appreciate that while people are running away from danger that it’s these officers who are running towards it in order to keep streets and places safe from threats or danger so we can carry out our daily lives.

They don’t make nearly enough or receive the respect and credit they truly deserve
