Media 6 month camp ''Khamzat Chimaev'' is born

Usman is past his prime, and he has shot knees, but he's still an elite fighter. It's not like the rematch with Leon was a blowout.

Does beating him hold as much stock as it did when he was champ? Obviously not. Is it still a top echelon win? Yes.

Should it grant Chimaev a title shot at MW? Absolutely not, but people forget MMA is part of the entertainment industry. It's not like the UFC is saving babies.

People want to see Chimaev for the belt, and frankly if he really is as good as he is hyped to be it would be a good idea to have his reign start already, since this is a fickle sport and contingencies can derail champ reigns. Look at Cain, Khabib, Usman. So I don't personally mind too much the preferential treatment in this case. If he wins impressively, let's see if he is really champ material.

Man. Khamzat makes sherdog emotional. Usman is now a tiny shot fighter? He dominated Leon the first go round and could have won that rematch. And he’s a massive ww. Will be better off at mw.
Shit people were just saying khamzat is a ww and will get killed by mw. And khamzat won’t be able to take costa down. But one of the most dominant wrestlers makes it somehow an easier fight than costa ?
Usman has been in camp. He wouldn’t just take a fight on 2 weeks notice rolling off the couch.

Was Bisping in top shape when he was called to fight Luke?
He was actually. He had been doing workouts for a movie related gig that were pretty intense. And he was sparring a lot as well and keeping his weight on point. He also knew that he was in the mix for a backup title fight after the Silva win. When Weidman broke his back it was Bisping's team that pushed UFC for the title shot not the UFC pushing him. And Rockhold pushed for Bisping as well because he had already beaten him (which lead to massive overconfidence). Bisping talked about this at some of the early media gigs and press conferences. He was keeping ready on purpose.

Not sure what shape Usman will be in. Especially when you factor him moving up essentially 1.5 weight classes from 170 to 185. He does have the benefit of this being a three round fight and not a five rounder at least. Usman has likely been in a camp of another fighter training them. Like helping Burns rehab or whatever.

GOATmaev is not the hero you wanted, he's the villain we need. He's going to hold three belts just watch

Thank you for the Bisping info.
And yes, many fighters do remain "in shape"... but that's the thing... their "in shape" is very different than peaking, which is what they do when preparing for a fight.
If anything, this should be a valley instead of a peak. AGree?

Beating a 36 yr old no knees short notice WW at MW where Chimaev belongs? Yes, he will probably make it look easy and get an undeserved title shot. It's normal.

Building up excuses already? Just cause you will be shooting blanks at 36 with dead knees don't mean Usman is. He's built different clearly.

Nice info on Bisping!!! Thank you very much, I was not aware. I may stand corrected on Bisping, but Chad & Nate were on point examples, agree?

And yes, many fighters stay "in shape", but while that's an amazing shape by normal people's standards, the difference is the intensity.
They train, but not that hard as they would do during a camp. I mean, if staying in shape was enough, virtually all fighters would not go to training camps... and yet they do.

Look, I am not saying Usman has no chance.
But even if they fought with full camps at this weight, Khamzat would be the favorite. Take the camp away from Usman, and I am sorry. If Khamzat is not able to dominate him and win, IMO this goes against him. And I am not saying this because I hate him (though I do hate the vast majority of his fanboys).

I mean, if he beat Usman, do you think he gets a title shot? I don't think so (though the UFC might do it just because they are greedy).
But if he was to beat Paula, I am sure he would get a title shot. This fight will not help (with a win) and will take all his momentum if he loses.

People so ready to hype up Chimaev, probably because he hardly ever actually fights.

I fully expect Khamzat to KO Usman. I'm just not convinced Usman can wrestle his way to a win here.

Usman has only lost 1 guy in the past 10 years, so now he’s washed? This is pathetic dude lol

It is not his fault that Costa pulled out hence there is nothing such as collective punishment he took the short-notice fight with the same offers that he still gets TS if he wins. Just because your title eliminator fighter got injuryed doesn't mean your opportunity goes into thin air. Besides it is done deal if Chimaev beats Usman he gets Strickland

Chimaev was denied the 170 shot because he missed weight and disrupted an entire card badly. The UFC basically slapped him on the wrist for it though as his next fight is a title eliminator at a new weight class where he is not even ranked. No way they could risk Chimaev at 170 again for a title fight and have him miss again and blow up another card. Chimaev at 185 has so far accepted a fight, trained for it, and we are just waiting to see if he makes weight and shows up. So far he has done what the UFC has asked and he has been on social media a lot less and seems to be training seriously.

Exactly. Chimaev is an exciting prospect who had a top 185 opponent and a title eliminator fight lined up. With the opponent out the UFC can throw him another opponent and keep their promise of it being for the top spot. Usman technically has a win over Strickland though it is at 170. So him being in the title mix is not that outrageous. And they just had Pereira barely win against Jan and get a title shot at LHW and the fans don't seem to care.

Chimaev has a good enough story to get a title shot at MW. So does Usman because Strickland is the champion. Are guys like DDP or even Adesana or Cannonier more deserving? Yeah probably.

LOL see what I mean? Right away!
Demand and excuses.

So, to sum up, in your mind, if Khamzat beats someone from another division, he gets a title shot???
LOL
I Love your logic!

"punishment" ???
Please grow up. They are not little kids who are misbehaving.

Again I have to ask.
If he beats Usman, do you think Khamzat deserves an 185 title shot? (I mean you said yourself he won't get at 170)
For beating someone from another division??? with no camp?

Look, you guys are talking about "fair".
But we all know that life is not "fair".
I never said it was his fault Paulo had to drop!
But beating someone from a different division shouldn't award ANYONE a title shot.
