First Read: Previewing Tonight's NBC News-YouTube Democratic Debate
It's such a busy Sunday in politics — tonight's Democratic NBC/YouTube debate, the results from our new NBC/WSJ poll showing Hillary Clinton with a 25-point national lead over Bernie Sanders, and so many candidates on the Sunday shows — we bring you a rare weekend edition of our morning column.

And the point we want to make is how the Democratic presidential contest, which is neck-and-neck in Iowa, has turned into a true fight over the heart and soul of the Democratic Party. Do Democrats go with the candidate essentially running on continuity with President Obama (Clinton), or do they back the candidate promising revolution (Sanders)? Should their nominee be another Clinton? Or should it be a self-avowed democratic socialist who hasn't been a member of the party until now?

NFL playoff game, Sunday night dramas, and a free UFC card with a title fight is on free TV.

There's a reason why the DNC scheduled the debate for tonight, they don't want anyone to watch it. Hillary is their pick.

I will still probably watch some of tonight's debate. I am more interested in the UFC event and football today though.

Dude that is dumb. This time was picked before UFC card time was picked I am pretty sure. And 2nd of all most people in America don't watch MMA or care about a stupid Bantamweight fight card. Oh and not everyone watches NFL.

Only demographic that I largely going to miss is the young male and older male demographic who like football.

there is a massive female segment who watches football - i bet the NFL ratings absolutely dwarf the debates.

64% of Americans will watch the playoffs tonight 45% of those watching are female. Andes is just a Hillary shill, most of his posts are defending Hillary and talking shit about Bernie and the repubs.

We all know the Democratic debates were scheduled so no one would watch them and hillary coasts to the general election.

Andes isn't even a hillary shill. He's roleplaying as a hillary shill. It used to be much more obvious, because he would take expressly contradictory opinions in different threads.

Latest rumor is if Bernie keeps closing the distance, they will bring in Biden to get the nomination.
I like Bernie because he has principals but not a fan of most of his policies, if that make sense.
Well Feel the Bern can not win a general, no matter how much all of the under 30 voters love him. He is the lefts version of Ron Paul.
The problem is nobody likes Hildawg, but if the right runs Trollmp or Rafeal Cruz, against Hildawg, Hildawg will win. Rubio needs to get the nod, to pull in undecided moderates.

And just when I was starting to come around on you, you write some stupid shit like that. How ignorant can you be. Debbie Wasserman Schultz used to work for Hillary Clinton as her campaign cochair and is doing everything in her power to make sure nobody is viewing Bernie Sanders (and for that matter Martin O'Malley's) points of view.

Open your eyes dude the world is not black and white. I swear you believe the official media story way too much.

I'll give you that it was scheduled before the UFC card, but not before the NFL playoff, and everyone knows networks put on their best dramas on Sunday nights.

And I can guarantee you no one in the UFC ever said 'we can't put on a free card that'll compete with the Democrat debate!'

The expressed purpose for scheduling it for this timeslot was the expressed purpose of having NOBODY watch it. Which is the exact reason why the last one was on a Saturday night between Christmas and New Years.

Lol Americans and their football. I'm doing UFC and debate. Plus my Patriots already won!!

Hey its possible. I think Scultz maybe is doing what you suggest.

Oh and the official media is against Hillary. JVS has pointed this out repeatedly yet people won't believe him. Every time I flip on MSNBC it has attacks or criticism of Hillary. Watching morning Joe on Friday morning and there was Hillary smashing claiming she is not 'progressive enough. Meanwhile just praise of Sanders and only doubting how logical or effective his policies are.

In other words most critics of Sanders point out legit issues with his policy. And are not attacking him for just existing.

Oh and I am undecided I may vote Bernie after all.

Rubio is far from moderate but the GOP is so far extreme to the right he looks so. Rubio favors upward redistribution of wealth and neoconservative foreign policy and is a climate change denier.

I'll have to switch back and forth between the three which will suck a lot. This is the first one I'm interested in seeing at this point.

So are you saying the primary debates haven't been scheduled to avoid being watched?

Well what about the first two? Both on weekdays?

And what about the next two? On a Wednesday and Thursday. What now is the excuse once those roll around?

I'll give you Saturday is dumb for a debate and I wish there was more.

Rubio is far from moderate but the GOP is so far extreme to the right he looks so. Rubio favors upward redistribution of wealth and neoconservative foreign policy and is a climate change denier.

1. His tax policy isn't anything new for the party since the 80's. Maybe far right if you compare to Nixon/Eisenhower but we could go farther back then that with any politician and say they've strayed a certain direction.

2. Problem with the whole neo-con thing is both parties have seemed to accept it. If you don't think Hillary is the same neo-con that Rubio and Graham are, I don't know what to tell you. It's funny because Obama ran against that and I think it played a large part in his win in the primary and GE. People grew tired of what we were doing. I largely agree with his FP decisions for the most part. He avoided unneeded conflicts. I highly doubt the next president will do the same, whether Dem or GOP.

3. Climate change matters in the sense that we continue to have alternative energies progress and eventually overcome our current portfolio. I don't see that changing either way with a Dem or Republican candidate. I actually would argue the GOP would do a better job if nuclear energy wasn't such a nonstarter with Democrats. You can't bring up a Republican candidates nonacceptance of facts with climate change and then turn a blind eye on Democrats ignorance with nuclear energy.

Carolina Panthers VS New England Patriots in Super Bowl L. Calling it now. I would post this in the sports bar but who ever goes there am I right LOLOL

Carolina Panthers will win by 10 points

3 of the 6 debates were on a night Friday-Sunday. One of them being Christmas weekend. Another being this week during Football Sunday Playoffs. By the time we see those two you mentioned, Iowa and New Hampshire already happened. We are talking about one debate being scheduled outside of a weekend before Iowa/NH and it was the first one in mid-October.

I went there a few times and it's even worse then the Heavies where they can't accept a champions accomplishments. You list any team's superbowl win that isn't their team and they will have a reason it shouldn't count or why it was a shitty year and doesn't matter. I actually would take Heavies over Sports Bar and that's very very sad.

Where did you get this latest rumor from?
