I think Edgar won too, but in Championship fights you typically need to put a big fucking stamp on your victory... the judges will favour the Champ in a close fight every time.
Giving Frankie anymore than 1 round is nothing more than sympathy. They were all close rounds past round 2. But Edgar simply didn't do anything while getting busted up every round. He showed a lot of heart though.
I think those who gave him round 5, based it on knowing it wouldn't affect the outcome of the fight but wanted to show Edgar he really showed heart.
Really not sure why so many people are giving Round 5 to Aldo. I felt like it was close but pretty clearly for Edgar.
The only thing I can think of that could've potentially swayed it for Aldo is the great Superman Punch that he landed at the end. I'll flat out admit that Edgar is my favourite fighter, though, so perhaps I was just seeing what I wanted to see. I'd need to watch it again to be positive but I was definitely confident Edgar won that round during the live fight.
At any rate, Aldo definitely won the fight as a whole. First two rounds were clear, third was closer but Aldo definitely landed harder shots and caused more damage. I thought it was a great fight between two of the best in the world and the right man came out on top at the end of it all.
How about this, when all else being equal or hard to judge, the guy who looks like he just been ran through a meat grinder will usually be judged to have lost the fight. But man, it ain't even that close. Frankie took the 4th, I can see a legitimate point about maybe the 5th, but not any other rounds.
I had it 3-2 Aldo with the third being close and possibly going to Frankie. I don't disagree with the decision but I think giving Aldo 4-1 is pretty weird.
Aldo kick/trips Frankie with oblique kicks twice which Frankie absorbed that & the headkick )frankie has practice absorbing these aswell lol) and thats all Aldo did... Frankie Slammed him, out kicked & striked him from Rd 3 to 5 .
I often see Fight Matrix missing strikes that land, but even tonight they had Edgar out landing Also in both significant and total strikes in the last three rounds (and Edgar clearly was the aggressor with more cage control) yet they gave two of them to Aldo for some reason. They pulled the same odd reasoning for other fights in the past like the Sanchez/Parisyan fight where they had Diego with a round by round advantage in both total and significant strikes, and dominant positions/guard passes, yet they gave the decision to Parisyan somehow.
It's really strange for me to see people point to two visually appealing but ultimately low significance strikes as major evidence, and even stranger to point to a bloody nose or bruise when it's common knowledge that not all skin tissue is made equal. This is especially strange considering the Cro Cop/Fedor fight where Fedor's face showed bruising after the fight while Cro Cop's did not and yet Fedor certainly won the fight; and this was a huge fight in terms of pointing out how bruising and a little blood does not hold any real significance in terms of who the winner was. I just see a lot of people nowadays, especially younger fans (even if they would never admit their age or when they got into the sport) so swayed by a few visuals over point by point breakdowns.
I had it 1 2 aldo, 4 5 Edgar. Wasn't too sure on 3. Really though, it's fucking state judges, these are the guys who fuck up any fight that is relatively close, I'm surprised as hell lil nog won a ud despite clearly outstriking rashad that whole fight.
Fedor won his fight because he was on top of Crocop raining down punches. Frankie's face look bad and he didn't do shit. That's the difference. Dancing around playing patty cake is not octagon control.
