Does anyone care? Look, regardless of what you think about the ethics of meat eating, (I myself eat meat) do you think something needs to be done about how explosively this industry is growing and the effects it is having on our planet?

Is it worth having our oxygen sources cut down so that we can indulge in dollar burgers? Is it worth having entire species of plants and animals go extinct so that we meat can make up a higher and higher percentage of our diet?

What do you think? Do you care? Why do we spend billions/trillions of dollars on frivolous bullshit when we are destroying the very life support systems of life on earth?

Oh, not to mention factory farming is causing an entire arena of global issues.

Climate change. Ocean dead zones. Fisheries depletion. Species extinction. Deforestation. World hunger. Food safety. Heart disease. Obesity. Diabetes. The list goes on. There is one issue at the heart of all these global problems that is too often overlooked by private individuals and policy makers alike—our demand for and reliance on animal products. We can take a substantial step towards addressing all these problems simultaneously through reducing or eliminating our reliance on meat and dairy products.

At least we get some delicious beef out of the deal.

Should just move over to chicken

Less red meat the better

Im a huge meat eater and i don't think its worth it. I think we should seriously invest in insect farming. We need to make insects a staple protein source. Perhaps im talking out of my ass but i think that would be very beneficial for out environment.

Cricket protein bars are gaining popularity

Fortunately that seems to be the trend. Red meat consumption is either stable or tapering down from most of what I have seen while chicken consumption is way up.

However what if it is too little too late? It's something like 2600 square kilometers a year of south american rainforest being cut down currently. If it takes 30 years before we change enough to make a real difference and those numbers continue, we are fucked.

Or maybe, you know, you could just eat beans and rice...

I tried finding some cricket protein powder but the closest i could find to it was cricket flour. It was like 40$ for a pound so that wont do at all.

The more popular it becomes, the more the prices will drop. Chapul cricket bars were featured on an episode of Shark Tank, and from what I remember, the cost of raising crickets and creating the flour was actually pretty cheap. Right now, there just isn't enough competition to drive the price down.

I'm seriously thinking about stop eating meat again.
Maybe some fish, here and there, but I'm just as happy eating some oats as a steak.

Take up hunting. Not only is the meat better for you, but it doesn't impact the habitat, many types of animals need managed depopulation, and the money you put into permits goes into preservation. You actually end up helping endangered species far more than most Green peace types ever will...

There is not much wildlife where I am at.
Some bunnies and cats would have to run away from me.

Or we can just push the cricket industry.

Meh, you could do that. You could also push lab made meat or replicators like in Star Trek. Or you could just use the existing, efficient, healthy option which is widely available and cheap. Whatever floats your boat. I just don't see the need to push something for which there is already a great alternative.

Rabbits aren't bad. But yeah, it's true - there just isn't much hunting possible in some places.

They are good but the bones can be really sharp.

That is horrible. 47% is a lot. I guess most of the area south of the Amazon is basically developed then.
