Michelle Waterson-Gomez suffered a second round technical knockout loss in a rematch against Marina Rodriguez at UFC Fight Night 228 on Saturday.

“The Karate Hottie” was thoroughly outclassed by Rodriguez on the feet with a 90-16 total strike differential. While Rodriguez seemed close to finishing to bout in the opening frame, Waterson-Gomez displayed commendable toughness in weathering the storm. As the beatdown continued, referee Kerry Hatley stepped in to halt the bout at 2:42 of the second round. A bloodied Waterson-Gomez broke down in tears after the defeat.

UFC Hall of Famer and Waterson-Gomez’s former teammate at Jackson-Wink MMA, Rashad Evans, who was an analyst for the event, consoled the 37-year-old outside the Octagon as she was overwhelmed by emotions. Sharing details of the exchange, Evans stated that Waterson-Gomez felt like she could have still mounted a comeback.

“It was tough,” Evans said on the post-fight show. “Because at the end of the night, when she came to me, she said, ‘I didn’t want him to stop it. I wanted to come back. I wanted to come back and I know could come back.’”

While there is no arguing the stoppage as Waterson-Gomez was clearly not defending herself anymore, Evans can’t help but empathize with his former teammate.

The sentiment is quite understandable; especially when someone's fighting for their spouse and child/children.

Depending on how much her husband brings home, she may feel more pressure to perform; even as a 37 y/o professional fighter in the twilight of her career.

She definitely has a UFC desk job waiting for her...

Someone needs to give her the hard talk she needs to hear, hopefully this was the breaking point.

Michelle has always been under-sized and now she’s losing athleticism while the game is passing her by.

WMMA isn’t deep so she could always find opponents worth beating, but for her name value and performances she isn’t really warranting the cost.

She’s repped by WME so maybe she can fight out her contract against the biggest layups they can find, but if she wants to have a career post-UFC it’s highly advised she stop taking life-altering beatings immediately.

No one has ever questioned her toughness or will, but if the body isn’t capable of what the mind intends it’s time to hang ‘em’ up.

They better change priorities. She speaks more slowly and methodically than she used to. She's still pretty and can still think. She's a wife and a mother. Someone needs to intervene before she offers all of that up to the JBG and isn't good for nearly as much after that.

We all love her. It's time to stop taking shots to the head. Her husband has to know this. As Buffer says: "It's time"

That might not have been appropriate.
<{nope}>
I'm dead
Solid new account!

Yeah, I was thinking about all those old t-shirt and sport coat wearing retired boxers that I used to see do color commentary (maybe they still do) consisting of rambling esoteric anecdotes back in the day.

Hopefully she has that stereotypical "why women live longer" sensibilities and moves on.

It would appear not - as the article in the opening thread detailed, she confessed to Rashad she thought she could’ve comeback in that fight….

That was one of the worst beatings I’ve seen in a round, she took an extra 2 min of undefended damage from a buzz saw.

Maybe it’s too fresh and she can hopefully re-assess.

I pray she does. It's always "cool" to see a pretty chick with an "over my dead body" attitude and no quit in her in MMA. But, after like 10 years, I start thinking "your body doesn't HAVE to die".

I'm sure they own some kinds of businesses and if they don't they should see about doing that. She can commentate yes. But whereas they will hire a slow talking male ex fighter as a commentator, I'm not sure they're going to do that for a pretty woman like Michele once her speech slows enough. That would just open them up to criticism. If she takes enough new fights, she can kiss commentating (and a lot of media related stuff) goodbye.

And she is SUCH a sweetheart who so clearly loves and honours her husband. How can anyone not stand behind her as a human being?

Retire, Michele. You've done it all. Now give the rest to your loved ones.

Her husband coaches her or at least handles part of her practice

Haven't heard her speak in quite a while. Is her speech really that bad these days.

Joe Rogan needs to Brendan Schaub her.
