I honestly wouldn't even be surprised if a guy like Hermansson could do it. Jack's got mediocre wrestling (which is still better wrestling than anything Pereira has faced), but elite BJJ. If jack got on top of Pereira like Izzy did....that would have been game over.

Whittaker, Vettori, Muniz, Brunson, hermanson....... They're all licking their lips right now.
 
Styles make fights.

While it is unlikely the current crop of MW contenders could have beat Izzy, a one dimensional Pereira found success because he just happens to be the best at that one dimension.

I think any grappling heavy middle-weight would be able to beat Alex. He's a freak athlete and strong, but he showed many holes in his ground game against Adesanya.

Whittaker, Khamzat, Vetori and maybe even Gastelum could take Pereira down. Cannonier, Costa and Till would struggle as they are primarily strikers. Nobody on the current UFC roster is going to get the best of Pereira on the feet.

We'd get this weird situation where one of those guys hypothetically beats Alex only for them to lose to Izzy again. These guys are praying that Alex somehow gets rid of Izzy for them continuously.

It's also possible Pereira takes Izzy's soul if he beats him again (especially if it's another finish). Some fighters are never the same after losing their belt or running into someone they just can't beat. There's also the possibility of Khamzat or even Bo Nickal being a force in a couple of years. There hasn't been a really good offensive wrestler since Weidman and Chael so that could stir things up.

If Izzy loses again, he'd probably have to win a couple of fights to get another title shot (assuming someone beats Pereira). MW could look very different by the time he fights for the title again.
 
I like Whittaker, I like the way he fights, he deserves this fight, I think the fans would want this fight - hold off on the immediate rematch, Whittaker's the man.

Ditch the Whittaker v Costa fight, Costa only getting it cause Rob's beat everyone else.

Whittaker v Perreira in Australia in Feb.

Izzy has had a busy schedule and just got finished, he can sit out for 6 months and fight winner, either rematch with Periera or against Whittaker which is much more interesting if Whittaker has the belt again. Izzy could take a keep busy fight if he wants too, maybe the Till/Du Plesis winner, has talked multiple times about fighting Till previously.
 
I do believe he stands a bigger chance of beating Pereira than Izzy did, purely based on his wrestling and general ground game. If he tries to stand with him though....

I doubt the UFC would turn down a possible trilogy in MMA. If Izzy loses again that probably won't happen but I think they realize what they have with Pereira
 
Whittaker has no chance against Alex. His wrestling isn't very good and his striking is so amateurish compared to the top dogs.

He gets KO'd worse than Izzy 1 fight.

All these other guys like Vettori/Brunson/Hermansson etc will never get to a title shot because they aren't good enough.

It's Izzy/Khamzat or Alex moving up to LHW next I reckon.
