What happened with GDR? She put Peña to sleep last year and she was #1 in the rankings. She should be getting a title shot.

That fight with Peña was great for her:

Are you implying GDR should get a title shot before Nunes gets her rematch? Yes Nunes was defeated by Pena but given her dominance over the division she definitely has deserved her immediate rematch.

Solid match to make after the rematch with nunes. Its nice that this division has gotten interesting

Look at it this way.
Cyborg was 13 years undefeated and when Nunes beat her, Nunes never wanted to give her the rematch.

GDR already set out to accomplish what she wanted. She won a UFC title. First UFC champion from Netherlands. She has been flirting with retirement for a few years already. She might come back and try to win it again but I don't think she is bent on leaving some legacy

Apples and oranges. Rematch was never offered and it wasn't because of Nunes. She would've gotten the rematch if she didn't piss off Dana after the Spencer fight. Cyborg also only had two title defenses.

Did you know that both Shevchenko sisters have been fighting in MMA longer than Roxy?
I knew Valentina started when she was like 15 but I hadn't done the math. Wasn't aware that Antonina did too.

That is some excellent MMA trivia.

Why doesn't Bas count?

Why doesn't Bas count?
You are right. He does count. There is no doubt about it. I just feel like he has been living in America for a few years before that fight. That is why I sort of didn't mention him. He wasn't flying the flag during his fight. When he won his title. He went home to California. When she won the title she went back to her hometown and was honored by local media.

I am definitely not trying to shit on him about not loving the place he grew up. That is definitely not the case at all. For me there is just something different with a person born and raised in an area. If they open a gym then they will give back to the growth of the sport in their country. Maybe it is nostalgia but I really liked how MMA used to be a real international scene. Maybe it is heavy wrestling scoring that influence people to move to USA to better their career. I am not sure.

I do miss the international aspects too. And 95% sure Bas was divorced and living in CA at the time. I do think he was wearing a Netherlands shirt, or maybe it was a Dutch gym shirt, when he went to the ring.
