You know, last 17 years or so, I feel like I spent as much time on Sherdog as anybody in existence, and followed MMA as intently as anybody. I mean, not to boast or anything like that, but it's more like realization, holy fuck, that's a lot of time spent on one thing.
In hindsight, I'm sure I could have been more productive lol with that time, but I don't have much of social life, and Sherdog is really the only social media I use and MMA is really my favourite sport, so I guess it ain't so bad, though I can't help but feel like yeah, that's a lot of time that could've been spent otherwise lol.
And It got me thinking, what were the fights that were so memorable, that you were genuinely glad that you took time out of your day/night, and sat down and watch the fight unfold?
I'm sure there are good fights that's exciting on any fight card, but the fights that, looking back, you are glad that you were there, and you had a chance to watch those fights.
My list probably would go something like this. I did watch some MMA well before 2005, but only been following it closely since 2005, so I don't think I have fights included from 2004 and before, though I may have watched it and/or after the fact.
Not in order.
Overeem/Big Foot
Shogun/Machida
Fedor/Rogers
Crocop vs Gonzaga 2
GSP vs Hughes 2
Conor vs Aldo
Jones vs Cormier
Ronda vs Holm
Weidman vs Silva
Aoki vs Nagashima
Honorable mention: Jones vs Alex, Maynard vs Edgar 2, Fedor vs Crocop, MM vs Cejudo 2, Cruz vs Dillsnake, Conor vs Eddie, GSP vs Hendricks, Werdum vs Cain, Gomi vs Sakurai, Saku fights, Hunto vs Menhoef, I mean the list would be very, very long I guess
But if you have to pick top 10 fights that you were glad you watched, what are they and why?

Overeem/Big Foot
- Overeem still looking like he was benefiting from the “horsemeat” diet of his, so still close to his Ubereem form. Down two rounds, Big Foot shoved that horse meat up his ass. A really, a battle between a victim of TRT ban, who really needed that medically and who has never been the same since, and the guy who was looking as obvious as anybody in human civilization history that he was on something, then he pissed hot, no one was shocked.

Shogun/Machida
- Back then the best LHW from PRIDE collided with the best HW from UFC then collided while Machida was looking like he was going to have that Machida era for a long time. The best display of Karate vs Muay Thai in MMA hands down.

Fedor/Rogers
- Fedor on national television. Goat on CBS. The last fight of his legendary winning streak. People can shit on Rogers for all they want in hindsight, but he was 10-0 with 10 ko wins. JDS, Carwin, Lewis, Ngannou, Rozenstruik, Taivususa, none of these guys have done that and I don’t know ANY heavyweight who has done that, and it was back and forth before the finish in the second round

Crocop vs Gonzaga 2
- Been a fan of Crocop since k-1 days. I still blame Herb Dean to this day for that worst stand up ever. I mean, Herb Dean’s terrible, I still don’t know how he got the ref of the year, ridiculous, but I digress. Literally the very definition of turning the table on an opponent, in almost same manner. GG knocked Crocop to Croatian cemetery with his head kick, Crocop hellbowed GG’s face in inside his guard. I don’t think no fight ever made me so happy after the fight.

GSP vs Hughes 2
- Was on GSP bandwagon big time. “I was not impressed with your performance” polite Canadian coming for that revenge vs dominant welterweight country boy champion of good ol' usa. The very first fight of the title reign of UFC Goat. Epic head kick finish, what’s not to love?
Conor vs Aldo
- You can say whatever you want about Conor, but you can’t deny that Conor walked the walk when the spotlight shone the brightest. Simply the most impressive thing I’ve witnessed in MMA alongside Royce in UFC 1 vhs tapes when I was younger, since I didn’t think such a small guy could run through that competition back then. To be able to talk that talk, and to deliver in that spectacular manner? Nothing short or breath taking.

Jones vs Cormier
- Undefeated LHW champ vs undefeated HW 1b to 1a in champ Cain Velasquez. Hype was real, no fake beef around here, and though it was a bit one sided to my liking, I tend to like come backs or competitive fights at the highest level, but this fight is at the highest level of MMA between two fighters in their absolute prime, lots of hype and real beef, and it did somewhat deliver.

Ronda vs Holm
- Lots of Sherbros were on Ronda bandwagon. God, I couldn’t handle that, shit people like Joe Rogan were saying. I know all of them including Joe Rogan all but disappeared pretending they never knew Rousey, but Rousey was looking as dominant as anybody, and Holm did have a bit of hype as a prospect coming up the ranks, the best WMMA fight ever I’ve seen, and this fight, the finish, Ronda predicting her own demise on talk shows, it was perfect.

Weidman vs Silva
- Never been on Silva bandwagon. Picked Rich against him, even Forrest, but I knew that Weidman had the perfect style to give him trouble. Better than anybody Silva has ever faced in his career, and not even close. Silva ducked Weidman for a long time, and only had guts to face him when Weidman was coming off a lay off longer than a year. And oh boy they fought. And oh boy, karma was a bitch. I could never respect the guy for being so disrespectful at times inside the octagon, and he finally met a guy who could make him pay. The end of the legendary run he had inside the UFC. The beginning of the end for UFC MW Goat. Probably one of the most shocking Kos ever

Aoki vs Nagashima
- The most unexpected outcome of the fight ever. In a special rule fight, Aoki literally flopped around so that the other guy couldn’t put his hands on him. Literally unwindable rounds. Then what seemed even more unwinnable was the MMA round next. In my opinion, the single greatest upset in the history of MMA, and always good to see Aoki get ktfo.
