How much does it take for Francis to get some fans over here ?

He's entertaining, carries himself well and showed he is a complete mixed martial artist.

He avenged his loss against the guy who many here consider top 3 HW all Time. He learned a lot from the first fight and fixed his flaws. He took down Gane multiple times and Gane had never been taken down before.

People have also been talking shit about his behaviour while in fact we start to realize his stance was right towards Dana White and Fernand Lopez.

We need more fighters like him who know their worth and speak up about it

I was impressed and entertained. And I'm not trying to be an edge lord. For me, HW fights matter and it's where I can tolerate the idea of a "chess match" cause actions can have severe consequences. HW is were tension between actions lives. There were punches Cyril dodged that would literally end any sherdogger posting shit about Frank. Francis' progression in grappling skills in combination with his sheer strength is a power to behold. Cyril moving like a MW in there was insane. And these two beefcakes - one of them getting bodyslammed like that... just insane.

This was also the most visually aesthetic HW title fight since Carwin/Brock. Finally, two guys who actually resemble athletes.

I would trade THE ENTIRE FLW and BW divisions just for a rematch between these two.

I don't have a problems with him taking gane down. He was losing the striking. But he did nothing on the ground and that's why people are pissed

C'mon mang, you know you implied on here he had no shot of beating Gane before the fight. Give the champ some props. Beat the undefeated prospect by using more than 1 facet of MMA.

Francis' cardio improved a lot too. Impressive to see two huge dudes mixing it up and going five rounds without gassing

Ngannou loses because he got smoked in striking and turned into a panic wrestler but was calling out Tyson fury, gane loses because he can't defend a takedown or even maintain top position for more than 20 seconds

That too! Pacing yourself for championship rounds is a skill. And him doing it after R2 where it looked like Gane was gonna turn it into his standard pointbounce-to-a-decision win was impressive (nothing against Gane, but that's his shtick).

He has a lot of fans, in the sherdog forums at least. Aside from his performance, he just has a personality that rubs people the wrong way. If people don't like his personality, you're just going to have to find a way to cope with that.

I never understood the "hardcore" fan flex; or why people shit on "casual" fans.

Also, how much content (especially if we're not financially profiting) are we supposed to consume before we can be considered "hardcore" enough to have a serious discussion with other MMA fans?

Side note: It'd be interesting to see how many people on here actually train (or have trained) on a regular
basis at legitimate MMA (MMA applicable) gyms. I for one had next to 0 interest in consuming MMA media when I was training 8-10 hrs/week; and less when I was younger and training more.

I don't have a problems with him taking gane down. He was losing the striking. But he did nothing on the ground and that's why people are pissed

Those people probably shouldn't get so emotional about MMA that has inherently flawed scoring, then.
Pride's dead.

Dude.
I don’t hate on the guy. He’s got a great story, has come a long way, and he’s also a fantastic athlete.
But he is straight up not very well-rounded, and while it’s clear he’s putting really hard work into other aspects of his game, the fight the other night showed some pretty glaring holes in his game.

There were various posters predicting this would be the best HW title fight ever, and a far higher level fight than Fedor-Cro Cop, and it absolutely was not. And it’s not “nostalgia” to call that out.

Not every fight will end in spectacular fashion. Not every performance will be flawless. It’s great to come on sherdog and debate with other fans who follow the sport closely. However, you also see some of the most nonsensical takes. People like to sum up a fighter’s career based off one fight, while ignoring the flawed performances of their favorite fighter. It doesn’t make sense to me. Almost like some of these folks don’t understand combat sports at all. It’s not always pretty. True champions know how to win ugly fights—that deserves as much praise as anything.

why would his lay and pray performance make anyone a fan?

everyone is already a francis fan. people are just gane fans too because of his technical prowess.

I like fracis, but last weekend make me like gane more. gane is a more complete and technical fighter and has been active. he's every bit as likeable as francis. He's only been competing in mma since 2018. This man will be champion one day very soon. it doesn't matter that he has a loss. no hw champion doesn't have a loss. the last one is Cain Velasquez.

This fight reminds me alot of lawler vs hendricks 1.

the unsavoury way it ended turned people onto lawler and against hendricks.

It wasn't a bad performance from Francis, especially when you consider how bad Cyril has made everyone he's fought look. Sometimes you have to use a part of your game that isn't as pretty to get things done in MMA

I also applaud what he's doing right now in terms of speaking his mind about pay - he is probably in the best position of anyone on the roster to make some type of change. Losing your HW champ, the person who can theoretically beat everyone in the sport, would be a huge blow to the UFC
