Herb Dean is the referee of the year according to the World MMA Awards...

I know I'm going to sound like a snobby elitist fuck here and I don't care: this is one more proof that open fan voting shouldn't be allowed to decide anything of consequence.

Herb isnt even top 3 refs this year imo

Is that actually how these things are decided? That’s insane.

It’s like any internet poll relating to the CFL will be won by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The reason is it’s literally the only pro sports team in the whole damn province. So they automatically have a big fanbase compared to provinces/cities with multiple pro sports teams.

If that’s all you have is one choice, it makes it pretty easy to decide who to spend your time, and money supporting. Every other CFL city except one has an NHL team at the very least.

I love the way he hesitates and stumbles over himself before he stops the fight and then changes his mind. It reminds me of how I keep editing my Sherdog posts. Shows he puts a lot of thought into his stoppages.

I'm not going to say you're an idiot if you don't think so. But he is.

Yeah, pretty sure those were just an open online poll. So you're going to get a few people with good takes, a few people with garbage takes, and a whole lot of people who are just going to click the name they recognize most. Which would of course be Herb Dean.

It reminds me of UFC 124, the first, last and only time the UFC let fan voting decide the postfight bonuses. St. Pierre vs Koscheck 2 ended up winning Fight of the Night even though it was arguably the worst fight on the entire card, just because it was the main event and St. Pierre was obviously the biggest name. So the two guys who least needed an extra $50k got it, for five rounds of death by a thousand jabs.

I agree completely too many trolls and people that have no clue about anything. It also gives off a less professional vibe

You know thinking about it, that might be a nice low key good marketing strategy to make a bold claim like that. Controversy might get them more publicity. Kind of like the Onion posting news.
