2021 saw some serious mismatches.

Kris Moutinho took an incredibly unfair beatdown at the hands of Sean O'Malley, for example.

2021 also saw some perceived mismatches result in shock outcomes.

Juliana Pena tapping Amanda Nunes saw a HUGE underdog not only winning a title belt, but stunning UFC fans who had written the fight off as a pointless exercise and title defence.

But 2021 potentially also saw the single worst debut and the single worst mismatch the UFC has put forth in the entire 'modern era'.

Yep, Martin Sano Jr's 15 second KO at the hands of Matthew Semelsberger was as sudden and violent as the predicted worst case scenario.

Sano Jr was not only the worst debut of 2021, but I'm going to have to throw this open somewhat... has there EVER been a worse mismatch/debut in UFC history?

Pat has a win over Jan
Yeah seven fights after DC the fook is your point? Pat only had 4 pro fights when fighting DC. DC had already won the Strikeforce HW Grand prix at this point.

This kills me to say it, but his run in the UFC was fucking awful... As far as a high-ranked, trained for years etc... Ben Askren has one of the worst UFC careers ever. The non-choke over Robbie, he looked terrible. Masvidal killed him in record time and he was throwing spinning backfists that I would also be capable of throwing (i'd get off balance more because of the gut, but alas...) against Maia. Then add in the boxing fight after the UFC and VOILA: You'd never know he had been good to great.

Prime Ben Askren > Everyone.

But that debut in the OP is pretty fucking gnarly.
