Islam always had the skills but they couldn't let him move up in the rankings too much while Khabib was champ because they knew he wouldn't fight Khabib. Now that Khabib retired sky is the limit for Islam.

Combine that with the fact that Islam has been accepting fights with whoever and beating them while higher ranked guys duck him and its no wonder his rank has been corrected to #5.
