From his last interview Khabib clearly said that he's not motivated to come back because he's already beaten all the top guys (Conor, Dustin, Gaethje) and no matchup excites him. I understand that at this point with the way he ran trough his opponents he would like something more challenging. Don't even mention Tony (2 fight skid), and Do Bronx is great but just had his breakthrough year so he's not well established in the top 3 yet.

Here comes the elephant in the room : the GSP fight. Khabib has stopped talking about this fight, Dana has stopped talking about this fight and GSP too. GSP looks in phenomenal shape for a 39 year old in his recent insta pics and he's water fasting often which leads me to think he's maybe - maybe - testing his ability to make 155.

Let's be realistic that is the only Dana can goad Khabib back for one more fight. A legendary matchup with his idol, at the only moment where it will still be possible.

I hope it happens, Khabib vs GSP, April 2020, the GOATiest fight ever. Let me dream bro.

I read there was a bit of confusion about the last meeting anyway. Dana called Khabib to say he wanted to talk to him about the GOAT opportunity and Khabib thought it was a business meeting about his farm.

I don’t think Khabib returns even for that fight anymore. He was asked point blank a day ago if anything could bring him back, and he said only Ali. Who is obviously dead.

disagree.

i just think every other scenario starts with a 1-2 yr layoff for Khabib.

Just looked it up, GSP is born the 19 may 1981, so if the fight happens he would still be 39. Close to 40 that's for sure but technically 39.
That fight would never happen in the month of May. No chance. Khabib takes forever to get fights signed and actually into the octagon. Maybe would happen in the fall. Maybe.

GSP is almost 40 and has had one fight in seven years. He was one of the GOAT's, but is now an easy fight for any top WW or LW. Beating him at this point is not about challenge or legacy (how much legacy did Larry Holmes get for beating a 38 year old, 2 years retired Muhammad Ali -- and Ali was a much better fighter and much bigger legend than GSP, at one point Ali was the most famous person in the world), but about money.

After watching GSP vs Hendricks the other day, again, I firmly believe Khabib (now in his prime) would beat GSP in his prime (and Hendricks too, for that matter), let alone a 39-year-old GSP.

If GSP takes the fight, he gets destroyed on the ground by Khabib.

GSP will not be able to take the pace and pressure of Khabib, and he will be no match for Khabib on the ground. Khabib has forgotten more about old tricks of combat grappling than GSP is still trying to learn.

I understand the ufc being bitter about GSP vacating the MW title & not wanting to risk doing it again with the LW belt but it is a win/win/win (Khabib/GSP/Ufc) for this fight to happen at 165 lbs

It really does make sense if both of them are willing which from what I’ve seen they are

It would however be a damn shame without a crowd but if this could be the first post-covid event with a crowd you couldn’t ask for a better scenario than that

It would be possibly the biggest PPV ever if they fought, however they should have done it a couple years ago. GSP is 40 years old and has never cut to 155 before ever. Khabib has said he would only fight him at 155, so I doubt this fight will ever happen. Along with Couture-Fedor, two fights that should have happened, but unfortunatly never did.
