Just a random thought about Conors mental approach to the game. Say what you will about him but his mental analysis of the fight game both inside and outside the Octagon is second to none. He’s been able to execute several mental warfare campaigns. That’s why i’m surprised with his approach to Khabib leading up to their fight. He should have known that the antics weren’t going to work and should have adopted a quieter more stoic approach. It was pretty clear to me the Khabib wouldn’t be shaken by the bs in a way that would impact the fight. Since that fight we’ve seen him adopt a much more humble approach and give credit to his opponents and potential opponents. Maybe he was blinded by his rage but he should have at least conceded that Khabib wasn’t gonna lose at the podium. Basically i felt it was time for Conor to show mental dominance by changing his approach before that fight rather than after. It showed poor situational awareness as it related to the actual fight that took place.

Conor's relative humility

Hmmm yea maybe Conor's relatives are humble but certainly not him

<seedat>

Ducked Usman and Colby at WW, he picked a post prime Ceronne on a loosing win streak instead. Asked to fight an unranked 41 Diego Sanchez. Never was a class a fighter.

Conor succeeded in upsetting and aggregating Khabib. It’s simply that khabib responds to those emotions differently than some.

In my opinion it’s one of those things you never really know until it happens. Khabib was obviously upset and bothered the entire fight build up, but he showed up, and looked quite confident.

I think by the time it got to the octagon it wasn’t “only business” for either guy, in fact, I think it was incredibly personal. It wasn’t “just words” for anyone involved which is why it escalated the way it did.

His “antics” are part of his strategy though. And for the most part they worked very well with past opponents. Especially against Aldo. Plus it’s that BS drama prefight that gets his fans all excited.

Why would he switch that up before fighting Khabib? Conor wouldn’t know if it would work or not if he didn’t try it. It’s just that it didn’t work out the way Conor hoped. It obviously did affect Khabib. But, Khabib didn’t let it completely throw off his game. He didn’t make stupid mistakes during the actual fight. He stuck to the gameplan, and beat Conor decisively.

No one knew that approach wouldn't work because no one has ever tried it with Khabib. No one has tried to make him fight emotionally prior to the Conor fight and that usually works on other fighters. Khabib seems to be used to fighting in either state (stoic/emotional). Probaby due to his upbringing, he has mentioned a lot of experience with street fights that's why people like Khabib and Diaz bros are comfortable fighting emotionally compared to sport fighters who are not used to that type of fight setting. That's why Conor's usual antics also didn't work on Nate Diaz. They are used to people talking shit and trying to start shit, so it's nothing new to them.

Mental analysis? What is that? Try to outstrike the other person for two rounds and if that doesn't work quit?

Yes surprising to Conor's supporters, he has been very humble since his only fight so far after his loss to Khabib. His dealings with Donald Cerrone have been very courteous and civilised.

It's amazing what a servere beating can do for you in a very very positive way. The type of humiliating beating khabib fed him.

Conor has zero humility, zero. Yes he can talk a great game of shit but when it came to a guy like Khabib it just didn't work. Khabib is just not a good matchup for McTapper at all. His ability to absorb strikes, his gas tank and his ground game are unbeatable. I think if they had a rematch, barring a quick KO, Khabib wins 95% of the time.

You are probably right but Khabib wants no part of Conor 2.0. A second fight with Conor terrifies Khabib!

I guess i’m just saying that it seemed like a bad choice to me leading up to it but Conor had every reason not to believe that i suppose. Was easy to see from my couch the Conor C’mon.
