In the recent Wonderboy V Neal fight I couldn’t help but think how being all friendly with Thompson is one of the worst things you can do as far as your chances of winning are concerned. Wonderboy thrives in that sparring mentality. You can’t play his game of point fighting because he will win every time. Instead you have to be sneaky, and do things he’s not expecting. Everytime Wonderboy touched gloves with Neal it seemed like he was instilling this sparring mentality into the fight. I don’t think he shows respect to gain any kind of edge, but it does benefit him and his style of fighting.

The opponent should be told that you will not touch gloves at all or mid-round. If he still invites to touch gloves, then use the opportunity to strike or take down.

That's a pretty astute observation for such a poor poster. You are right. Shifts the game in favor of WB.

Personally I think some mutual respect is great but that was way too much. Annoying AF.

In this case I think ts is right. You have a slightly better mental advantage over WB if you come at him angry than like buds.

Wonderboy wasn't always the one initiating though

I thought WonderBoy and Neal might actually kiss.

I think that respect and sportsmanship are great, in the way Khabib, Glover, Fedor, Holloway, Whittaker and other guys express it. I like Wonderboy, but the excessive respect is a bit much to me. If your opponent slips, turns, gets hurt or whatever, just pounce on the guy, it's a fight.

Didnt see the fight yet, but fully agree with your post that it would be and apparently was helpful to wonderboy. I mean, i dunno I'd grin at a guy if we had something good going on, but im not gonna get like that in a fight, personally i dont even like touching gloves at the beginning. Afterward we can hug and go out to eat together and all that, but when that fight starts, every step and every move should be an attempt to win imo.

Not a fan of it personally. I'm all for hugs before and after the fights, but if it happens during rounds it makes the whole thing feel less intense. IIRC you rarely see people do stuff like that during a championship or very important fight. At worst it gets plain silly like when Pat Barry basically gave away his win to Cro Cop because he was swooning so hard over meeting his idol.
