Would Charles Oliveira have the same level of success at Welterweight?

Seeing how huge Charles was against Ferguson got me thinking about how he would do at Welterweight.
He seems to be a lot stronger at higher weight classes compared to his previous lower weight class.
I think he would definitely scare some fools into submission.

If Demian Maia could go far in that division with his aggressive jiu-jitsu, then Charles would absolutely dominate.

What do you think?

Usman and colby would be able to keep him on the feet and most likely out strike, muscle hle him. That said Charles stand up has improved greatly

the jump from lw to ww is a big one. I think hes in the perfect division for him after his 145 stint. and I think he has a good chance against anybody not named khabib.
Good thing Khabib is retired

He'd get manhandled at Welterweight.

It's tricky to compare Oliveira's potential success at 170. If for no other reason than Maia went down from 185. He's a pretty big WW. Oliveira does seem to be carrying a bigger frame than he used to, so I still think he could fare well if/when he moves up.

His absolute advantage is the fact LW lacks wrestlers at the top. He can become a champ, while in WW, the top guys are bigger ground fighters than he is. So I doubt he would have succes against Usman.
What makes you think that Charles is worried about wrestlers? He probably has the best guard in the UFC.

Still need to see him against a top 5 LW in their prime. Lee has been on a skid for years and Tony is clearly not the same after that Gaethje fight. Lets see how he does against someone like Dustin or Gaethje before we even think of him at 170.

Usman is not a better ground fighter than do bronx, he's a better wrestler and he's better at getting the fight to the ground or avoiding going to the ground if he wishes, but when it comes to actual ground fighting? Oliveira is better.

That said, oliveira belongs at LW

Gaethje would be the ultimate test to put this "Charles no heart" theory on display.

Hopefully Justin's been working on his ground game after that khabib loss. In terms of striking he gives anyone a hard time at 155. As he says, just 2 leg kicks and you're legs already fucked. Would be a good fight.

Too soon, let him fight a true top-5(Ferguson was broken) in LW to see what we have in him, before thinking about WW.

Someone like Usman or Covington is not going to get in Oliveira's guard, they're going to use their size and wrestling to keep it standing

Why would he go up to ww? He seems alright at lw, doesn’t seem too big for me either. LW is his ideal weight class.

Well he's huge for a Lightweight.
I see him following the same path as Gilbert Burns, Raphael Dos Anjos, Michael Chiesa.
They all fought at Lightweight before moving up.
