What’s going on with everyone here? People are ripping him saying he was never good and he is overrated etc. he lost too a beast of a fighter in Olivera at almost 37 years of age after taking a beating from gaethje. Ferguson is one of the toughest guys in the world and at one point of time beat the best fight after fight. While guys like chandler duck everyone Ferguson steps up and fights them. Before this fight was made I am pretty sure no guys in the top 10 wanted too fight do Bronx. Of course when ufc offered it too Ferguson he stepped up and almost got his arm broken as well as losing badly but he toughed it out. Give this man his respect and remember how good he was in his prime.

Tony fought the same he always does against Gaethje and Charles

Tony isn’t past his prime, he’s been knocked down by many people before Gaethje and almost KO’d several times too

Gaethje and 155 Charles beat any version of Tony

Have Tony fans even watched the MJ or Castillo fights? <Lmaoo>

He was one of the best and most entertaining that I've seen. But he's not anymore. Seems like a pretty realistic take imo.

Don't forget that Ferguson was jumping at the chance of going to war against POIRIER.

Ferguson wanted to mix it up with Poirier so much that he actually begged the UFC to give Poirier more money so that there was no reason that Poirier ignores Ferguson.

He also refused to fight Holloway and also Makachaev even though Ali was going to give him a free 100k for it

yea he’s definitely past his prime. He’s been in a ridiculous amount of wars and he’s almost 37. Time catches up too even the greatest and especially in mma the decline is so fast.

Welcome to sherdog forums. You know Fedor and Anderson Silva went through the same ordeal? Jon Jones probably will too.

soo true. Some fans are pathetic. In the nba when shaq was terrible his last few seasons or when Jordan came back and played terrible no one ripped them apart because they credit them for how good they were in their prime and in the majority of their respective careers

Still am and will always be a fan. Unfortunately, he's aging and I feel he's not ready to stop fighting.

Lightweight is filled with fucking ducks. No respect. In b4 yea well you’re not the one fighting in there. No but I’m not acting like a badass either.

mcgregor literally ran away out of fear of having to face khabib/Ferguson, hung up the division for years, came back straight to a title shot, got his ass kicked, begged for a rematch despite not earning shyt, and tried securing fights with the likes of Diego Sanchez and Frankie Edgar in his return before settling for Cerrone.

Hooker ducked Islam saying he shouldn’t have to fight people ranked below him without realizing he wouldn’t be where he is without Felder taking a chance on him and getting screwed over in a decision.

khabib has a lot of anytime anywhere talk yet doesn’t even have the discipline to cut weight properly and leaves it all to the last week and missed out on so many fights as a result and is generally inactive af.

Ferguson mostly fought cans and when had a shot at Holloway decided against it.

These guys have the audacity to talk about “% of revenue” comparing themselves to actual top tier nfl/nba/nhl athletes but don’t realize they don’t get to cherry pick when they do and don’t participate. Lebron doesn’t just sit out against the Clippers because “it’s a bad business decision to have Kawhi guard me because I’m ranked higher and it’s a bad stylistic matchup.”

I’m just afraid this potentially great thing is turning into boxing. Gone are the days of guys like GSP and Mighty Mouse fighting number 1 after number 1 contender.

The only people who do that now are Adesanya and Usman and one just hugs the entire match. These guys have no grounds to compare themselves to nfl athletes.

They shouldn’t have the right to decide who they fight but there should be a very democratic rankings based process in place (e.g. 10 vs 9, etc) and very democratic process for moving up the rankings that should determine the fights. And each fighter should be booked at least 2-3 times a year.

Get over it, he would never beat Khabib, and he’s done

he will never come back from that stupid double cut

Yeah whatever the fuck is wrong on these boards, it seems like it only takes two losses in a row for a fighter who was on a 12 fight win streak before those losses to become obsolete. Yet guys with 60-40 UFC records don't get the same treatment.

Tony's still in there, and still one of the toughest guys at 155. So he was the man to beat Khabib, but all a sudden, after he loses to two absolute beasts, he was "overrated"? His last few wins don't "mean much" because they were against Kevin Lee, Pettis and Cerrone? His UFC record is like what? 16-3? For fuck's sake, letting two losses define that guy or make a bold statement along the lines of "he's done" is beyond ridiculous.

He got his arm snapped in the first round, try to fight one of the top 5 lws with that, see what happens. And it's not like Tony getting taken down and being at the bottom is anything really new either, or him getting punched and dropped...it's routine as far as his fights are concerned, and it FINALLY lost him two fights. And while he usually manages to deal with that and shrug it off en route to finding a way to win, this is MMA, and guys win some and lose some.

It's not the end of the world, or the end of him. Still a plethora of amazing matchups for him at 155.

People were calling him the LW GOAT. That to me is the very definition of overrating him. And disagreeing with that has nothing to do with giving him respect.

Just difference of opinion.

He fought the same way he always does and lost to a better fighter in Gaethje, but I actually don't think he fought the same way he always does against Oliveira. He was definitely much more cautious and didn't just run headlong into exchanges like he always does; there were times where previously he would've committed to pressure, but he held back and let Oliveira take the lead. I think it had a lot to do with him just being more wary after the beating he took from Gaethje. That said, I still think he just lost to the better fighter and this version of Oliveira likely beats him regardless.

I do disagree that Tony isn't past his prime. I think he exited his prime before a lot of people realize, and it's been chipped away noticeably over time. He's been slowing down for years now because his style just isn't sustainable.

The MJ and Castillo fights were a long time ago, but they definitely still provide solid takeaways. The Castillo fight convinced me that Tony wouldn't be as big a threat to Khabib as he was being made out to be, and this loss to Oliveira pretty much killed most of my interest in that fight. I also referenced the MJ fight as to why I thought Gaethje would beat him. Tony's improved over the years for sure, but in a lot of ways he's been the same fighter with the same weakness for a long time.

Still, I think he's a quality fighter overall and has definitely been getting unnecessarily piled on after this loss. But hey, he's a brash, batshit crazy guy who comes off as delusional even for an MMA fighter, so I get it.

cause Tony is a cringey disrespectful dude. He got his ass beat by Gaethje and still had the nerve to diss him afterwards. Talking shit how he saved the world and Justin should thank him. Im glad Tony lost back to back. Nice to see that Khabib fight completely slip away from him now. Have you not seen any of his interviews? Awful way to conduct yourself.
