So fighters quickly developed something about that them that makes them who they are. I will give you a few sure fire examples of that first.

Power- Guys like Francis and Carwin (and many others come to mind) you think right away when they fight they can end it at any time.
Submissions- when guys like maia or Jacre or Werdum fight you are always thinking shit if it gets to the ground it could be over fast...
Chin- when i think of Jonathan goulet, i think of the definition of glass chin. Sorry Jon, its just what it is lol.

So now, who are some guys that you think over came that? This will be interesting because a lot of times people don't perceive things the same. These might only resonate with you but it will be interesting to share.

Dustin Porier- I thought he was a quitter for some reason or that his heart wasn't as big as he has shown in the last few years. For me, at 155 he's shown the ability to be more of a dog than before.
Andre Arlovski- There was a time when i thought a stiff breeze would knock him out. Then he suddenly started eating punches from guys like rumble and others and sticking around. For me, he kind of changed the way i saw him.
Bisping- at first i saw him as an entitled dick head from TUF...but over the years the dude faced everyone. He took his licks as he gave them and then finally shut that smug prick Luke up lol. I'm not saying I'm his biggest fan, but the guy has earned his place in MMA history as a legend to me. He took on all comers and was a game fighter.

Who you guys got for me? Im sure there are some great examples lets hear them.

Matt Brown. Clay Guida. Vladimir Matyushenko. Brock Lesnar. Chael Sonnen (albeit he had help).

But I think the biggest answer in MMA is.....Butterbean.

Royce Gracie the man who was never expected to beat someone with strikes, did it by tko'ing Ken shamrock (knees and punches) in the last fight of his career.

BJ Penn overcame a guy with a legendary career by losing 7 in a row including Denis Siver of all people. He put the cherry on top by getting knocked out in the street.

Meisha Tate. She was the nice, sexy girl who was a good/very good fighter but kept falling short. The win she pulled out at the end from Holly made her a champion.

Henderson used to be known as "Decision Dan" and had a reputation as a boring fighter. Later his popularity increased, and he became known for the "H-bomb".

My perception of Mark Coleman changed a lot. Early on he just seemed like a big roided up bully, that Pete Williams KO was really satisfying. But later when the game caught up to him, I gained a lot of respect for how tough he was. And in retrospect, I hadn't appreciated the wrestling skills he brought to the game.

I remember when he first arrived in the UFC I could hardly stand to watch his fights, but grew to love him after knocking out Bisping(who was pretty much the most hated fighters on sherdog back then) now he is loved by all

Polar bear Paul Varleans. He’s simply a man.

mike Goldberg being bad at his job and having a successful lengthy career. Bruce buffer as well.
