Media Khabib's training camp | weight cut episode

You don't HAVE to cut weight, it is possible to fight at your natural weight class, you may give up some advantages you would stand to gain against smaller people. But you can just choose to NOT cut weight.
Some of these fighters, I'd argue the majority of them would get bodied if they fought at their natural weight class. Tony for example walks around 200

Let's be real, Tony is like 175 lean max. Hence why he fights at 155 (water cuts and then rehydrates 15-25 pounds like most fighters). If you are 175 lean stop dieting for a few months, weigh yourself in clothes and after a full day of eating and you will be "walking around at 200 pounds" but in shape morning weight and he's more 170-180 which is why he fights at 155.

True. Khabib walks around 190 out of camp, Tony 190-200 it of camp. I wonder what's both their walk around weight "in season"

Edit: I forgot khabib said around 183lbs

so stupid that fighters have to go through that. if only we could wave a magic wand and just see Khabib fight Tony at 170/175

i forget, is it more up to the state athletic commissions to regulate weight classes and weight cuts? not sure how much the UFC has sway over that

Wow that looks like a very hard cut, they literally had to peel him off the ground....

Some Fighters have such hard cuts that they always dread the weight cut more than the fight itself lol

Yeah, but I think there's something to be said about guys who do fight in their natural weight class. They might be smaller or weaker, but the stamina advantage is massive. Look at Buckley- Comes in at 182, completely jacked, and still has the stamina to throw bombs all fight.

I also heard about something about cutting less weight means more fluid surrounding your brain, which supposedly makes you harder to concuss. Frankie stands as the best example of that.

Ouch that is insane but we always see Tony so lean we have never saw him that fat

I was honestly expecting way worse. That's rough but considering the mumps and bum toe putting him way behind schedule, he handled it well. Hit his mark and was first up to the scale.

Khabib uses IV to recover! Otherwise, he would not have been able to recover from such a weight loss!

You really have to respect just how close and "family" Khabib's team is, especially post Abdul's passing. Gotta tip your hat. His team really loves him and would literally take a bullet for him if I had to guess.

Yeah there are definitely benefits to cutting less or not cutting but at the end of the day it's not safe to give up 10-20 lbs against high level comps. Frankie did great despite his disadvantage but he took a lot of punishment because of it and often fell short because of it.

It's a double edged sword. Most lightweights are going into the cage around 175 give or take. Let's say they move up and are a solid 180 at welter. Minimal weight cut. Easily fully hydrated by fight night. You still have to fight the Woodleys and Tills and Usmans who are fucking giants

If Khabib fought at WW, he'd be facing guys who are natural LHWs

Unless weight cutting is banned across the board, you kinda HAVE to cut weight or your opponnents will have a big advantage

But how many people weigh *exactly* 155 (or 170 or 185 etc) pounds? You'd have to cut some weight probably. If you weigh 172 pounds and fight at 170, you still need to cut 2 pounds.

That was hard to watch but weight cut comes with the territory. Hardest training camp of his career and finishes Gaethje inside 2 rounds. You can never break this man inside the Octogon.

Yeah, can never break him in the octagon at 155 but he's too scared to go up to 170 and not have to deal with the weight cut to 155. He's cleared out 155, yet he won't go up to 170 to really test himself. And if he really wanted that GSP fight, he wouldn't need GSP to go down to a weight GSP has never fought at before. He would go up to 170 and fight GSP there.

All the tales going around of Khabib dominating guys bigger than him in practice, yet he kills himself to make 155? It's very contradictory. If he dominates guys that fight at 185 in training, going to 170 shouldn't be a problem. He's retiring at his physical prime instead of going up to 170. On top of that, claiming he fights for legacy and not going up to fight GSP at GPS's weight class? He can cement a true legacy if he clears out 2 weight classes. Khabib's the Floyd Mayweather of MMA.
