I think that raw athletism plays much bigger role in mma than boxing. If you are much stronger than your opponent ability to grab a hold of him is huge advantage (that doesn't require alot of technique). But in boxing your main advantige is nullified.

If you just want to beat someone, or prove how tough you are, I think it is much easier to do in mma. Not to mention it is also much more similar to real fight, which gives you more of the bragging rights :)

Exemplars of raw athletes in mma are Ngannou, Hunt, Filipovic, Brock, Randleman...

Most obvious exemplars of unsuccessful athletes in boxing to me are Nate Robinson (A+++ NBA athlete) and Mihail Koklayev (one of the strongest people ever). They both got KTFO in boxing, but if they fought against same opponents again in mma i think that they would have much better chance. (If someone can post links of both fights that would be great, I'm on my phone so couldn't do it)

Thoughts my sherbros, would Nate and Koklayev had more success if they fought same opponents in MMA?

A level athlete with testosterone levels of a bull elephant doing MMA and trying to grab his opponent, who's a part time fighter/full time comedian, and got KTFO

Lesson here: raw athleticism only takes you so far, and MMA is a highly skilled sport

This is way before most people's time on here, but one A+++ athlete who was actually successful at boxing (6-0 record, mostly against journeymen) was Ed "Too Tall" Jones, an all-pro NLF defensive lineman who took a break for a couple of years in his NFL prime to box.

There was no MMA back then (other than a single one-night fighting tournament from 1979 I once saw on YouTube), so it wasn't an option.

This seems like this could have just been posted in the 1000 other threads sucking off bowlers and cricket players

We know scientifically that boxing causes more long term damage. But intuitively most people still see MMA as the much more brutal sport.

To these athletes boxing probably looks like more of a technical sport than an actual fight, plus they could potentially get paid more.

I also feel like the training for MMA takes a much bigger toll on your body than boxing does. Especially all the wrestling and grappling.

maybe bc it's a pain in the ass to try to learn boxing+kicking+wrestling+submissions?

and if they go MMA route, pretty much limited to UFC and negotiating with Dana which is also probably a pain in the ass. I imagine there's more promotion/broadcasting options with boxing

if you ever wanna destroy your knees just wrestle 3+x a week for a year

At least from a novice's perspective, there's WAY more to learn to do MMA.

Maybe for heavyweights, since HW MMA is pretty much a stand up game.

Boxing has a bigger following, MMA even if making big numbers is still a "new" sport, they end up becoming friends with celebrity boxers, the only "celebrity" MMA fighter is a douchebag who lives in Ireland...

it causes more long term brain damage which is the most important,granted...MMA fucks the whole rest of your body up way worse
