UFC should work on their crowdless production a bit more (comparison with yesterday's boxing card)

For those of you who watched it, yesterday's boxing card had really nice set up and lighting for their fights. I'm not the type to shit on UFC. Their production is fine but I realized that yesterday's boxing card brought it to the next level.

They had great lighting, great camera angles, and the audio was very crisp. They also had a crowd track during a couple fights with simulated crowd sounds which was actually pretty nice. Not intrusive at all but loud enough to make you enjoy the big moments more. Very nice imo but not necessary to enjoy the fights just a nice addition.

I think UFC could do better but I'm sure yall don't care.

yeah fake audience, I was wondereing where these sounds were coming from. I don't think Dana would go that low to fake the crowd though

I dont think he would go for it either, and honestly I wouldn't have supported the idea either but last nights track wasn't corny at all. It was very faint and added a nice energy to the fight that had it.

I didn't think the fake crowd was bad, but I'm kinda used to no crowd so it doesn't really matter. The NFL needs to work on their shit. The game I was watching last weekend had the home crowd cheering wildly for the visitors big plays.

Fake crowd noise is the laugh track of sports..
It was so feint that people probably didnt even really notice. The laugh tracks in sitcoms are overbearing and intrusive. Last night wasnt like that at all.

Still fake is fake. Therefor not authentic. Cringe and forced imo..

Boxing writers were all universally impressed by the quality of the production, saying that boxing, also, could learn a thing or two about holding covid-era events from these guys.

Also, bring back Snoop Dogg to commentate like he did on the contender series, and have him rap a medley of songs before the main event while smoking a blunt.

#1 - that's more for the fans, I think, and it does help. Watching soccer matches with no fake crowd sound just has the feel of watching a pickup game or a practice.

#2 - Not sure if the noise was just part of the broadcast, or piped into the venue, but adding noise to the venue would actually make it more legitimate, since, during live events with a huge crowd, you can't hear yourself think, let alone make adjustments to your game by listening to the broadcast commentary, in addition to hearing your corner so clearly, and hearing what the other corner is saying to their fighter.

The lighting and overall “vibe” was excellent.

UFC could learn and adopt it to their model and branding if they are smart, it is a bad look for a debut promotion to look better in a lot of ways than the industry standard.

Part of that is the way a boxing ring looks better on film by nature, but a lot had to do with style and production choices.

They should just concentrate on making cards with better fighters.

Everything else is second place, lipstick on a pig.

The cards are too watered down, half of the fighters on last night's card shouldn't even be in the UFC.

I have a feeling the solution is going to be actually mic’ing a limited audience.

Fake crowd noise is inauthentic, there is no way around that.

ESPN already does (when there were crowds). It's same handful of tracks on repeat. They even press the button when nothing is happening and it sounded hilarious.

Last night we got constant ear piece feedback to the truck .

I didn’t watch the boxing “event” but I thought the NBA did a good job with crowd noise. Including letting online fans generate the noise so that it matched up with the action

not sure the details. Just thought it worked well for broadcast

That was the best COVID era adapted sporting event I’ve seen for sure, I think UFC is more interesting in getting the cattle herded through than being that innovative with their production quality though
1- UFC used to be highly focused on production quality (even if I don’t agree with their choices)

2- They are partnered with ESPN who have insanely good graphics staff.

No reason UFC shouldn’t have the best visual presentation in the fight game hands down.

If you allow fans to contribute noise how do you stop someone like me from screaming penis or “kick him in the dick!” any time it gets quiet?

I wouldn't change anything about the UFC production. It's straightforward. Compared to PRIDE, Strikeforce, Bellator etc. the UFC has always favored a more "bare bones" or "hardcore" aesthetic. No entrance ramps, lasers, costumes, or sets. I think that works well for other promotions, but it's not the UFC's thing.
