I want to talk about Jose Aldo for a minute.

Jose has been one of those guys for a long time that seems to float between rank 4-10 in the GOAT conversation depending on timing/movement of other guys.

Im curious to know how you would have changed your rankings if Jose Aldo had won the BW championship. He would be the only one out of the major goat contenders to move to a different weight class and claim a title other than GSP. Would that have placed him convincingly in second for you?

Not second place imo

Though a win over Pettis for the LW strap would have put him in my top 3 for sure

Thought Aldo still had enough to beat Yan.. too bad it was 5 rounds...

No sir. It might cause me to rank him above Mighty Mouse instead of below him, but that’s about it. The top 2 spots in my GOAT list are occupied by Fedor and GSP, and beating Yan wouldn’t have been enough to put Aldo above either of them.

Would it put him above Anderson Silva for you?

If you just add a win over Pettis to his current resume I don’t think it elevates him that much higher.

When connor took his belt, it was all over for Aldo.
He just dont be the same, He did well agains Yan, but were 5 rounds :(

Silva and Jones are tough for me. I won’t rank a PED cheat #1, but should they be disqualified altogether? Maybe. If I include them, but just not at #1, then my current list would be:
1. Fedor
2. GSP
3. Silva
4. Jones
5. Mighty Mouse
6. Aldo

I rank Silva above Jones for having more title defenses, and the crazy ways he beat ppl, as well as moving up a weight class and impressively winning those fights as well. Even if Aldo had beat Yan, he wouldn’t have more defenses than Silva or Jones would he? IIRC he would not, so no, I think he has to be ranked below Silva and Jones both.

Like others said he would have a better chance of winning the LW title anytime from 2010 - 2014.

He just doesn't have the cardio to go with these young guys anymore.

He would be the only one out of the major goat contenders to move to a different weight class and claim a title other than GSP.

This is basically irrelevant with regards to how one would compare him to Fedor.

Moving down in weight from your natural class to get a second belt is not as impressive as moving up. So it wouldn't affect my opinion of his overall standing.
