Can anyone explain why O'Malley who is ranked 14 will fight an un-ranked opponent who just actually lost to the guy ranked below O'Malley at #15???? How does this make sense? I want to know know good this guy really is if he moves down in competition level, rather than UP?

Why rush him? O'Malley is only 25. Let him rack up wins and get some more experience before feeding him to the top guys.

The UFC rushed Darren Till to a title shot and we all saw what happened.

Rankings are dog shit, don't worry about them.

Look at the stylistic match up instead.

This is a step up from Wineland and should be a great fight.

Actually he's quite a good fighter and O'Malley could end up losing this if he takes his eyes of the ball. You have to remember if O'Malley is not able to get a higher ranked opponent at the moment and he wants to stay busy and get paid (at this moment he won't be getting much) he needs to fight who ever will fight him.
You have to remember Sugar didn't even break a sweat against Wineland in his last fight and knocked him out in under 2 minutes. So the guy is fresh without any injuries whatsoever. Makes a lot of sense if he can't find anybody else. O'Malley might be taking a Gilbert Burns as his inspiration, who in the space of about 15months has become the no:1 contender in the WW division by staying busy from being a complete gatekeeper in the Lightweight. If O'Malley whoops Vera like he did Wineland, he's going places. Infact if he looks really good, he may have serious difficulty finding a top ten ranked opponent like Makachev in the Lightweight.
