There will be a time when the Octagon will turn into a game of chess between two fighters with very high level grappling, striking, stamina equivalent to an elite marathon runner and an IQ of 9000. It will be no difference to a IBJJF borefest between black belts.

People talk about looking forward when UFC becomes fully evolved but who can actually tolerate next generation fighters constantly cancelling each other, stalling and going for a fluke shot followed by lay and pray?

Sherdoggers has always complained about wrestlers boring conservative styles so it got me into thinking are you really looking forward when UFC becomes fully evolved?

Whatever it brings, i'm looking forward to it.
I highly doubt that this will happen soon though as long as Dana White pays these relatively tiny amounts of money to anyone not being a champion.

It's already in that stage. A specialist who is well rounded at everything will always win

Well I can appreciate the skill aspect of it but I'd be lying if I said that I wouldn't rather see 2 fighters throw caution to the wind, bite down on their mouth piece, and move forward throwing bombs until somebody gets finished:

I highly doubt it will be boring

It will keep getting better for hundreds of years like boxing. Better athletes, bigger knowledge base, better training.

Once it's fully evolved all the fighters will be black and my self esteem will drop.

MMA will keep on evolving, it won’t stay stagnate. Just like any sport.

ballsports & CTE = combat sports death

ok ... combat sports wont disappear, but they will become niche.

it can’t become fully evolved. That’s literally impossible.

This is how most streetfights look between opponents that have some skill, but aren’t pro. Aint no point fighting on the streets.

Its already this way, the only two true especialists that we have are ben and maia, and ben askren sucks

What you're saying isn't going to happen for a long time, if it happens at all. The reason is because the youth MMA scene is tiny to almost non-existent, at least in the US. Kids grow up wrestling, boxing, and practicing other martial arts forms like taekwondo, karate, and judo. Many dream of competiting in the olympics, and become experts in the process. When two experts are limited to one specialization, it becomes almost entirely about technique (with the possible exception of boxing). In MMA however, there aren't the same limits. Take two wrestlers in the cage for example. On a wrestling mat, one might be superior and beat the other every time. In the octagon, the inferior wrestler has the ability to say fuck it and start throwing blows. Maybe the inferior wrestler is good enough to stop the takedown, and then both of them are punching. Until kids are practicing MMA from a young age, things won't change.

The full evolution of the perfect fighter would require an inividual to harness and be able to fully apply the skillsets of:

Wrestling: Karelin
Boxing: Ali
BJJ: Roger Gracie
Kickboxing/Muay Thai: Hoost/Dekkers

I just hope boxing/mma lasts my lifetime....let alone hundreds of years more

Society getting soft as fuck in a hurry

I think the elite fighters of old would probably be the elite fighters of today if they were to fight todays guys when they were at their peak.

ffs look at shogun, even in his zombie state he was able to take out Corey Anderson, (dropped him twice) and get the TKO over the heavy favourite Tyson Pedro

Nobody is inventing new shit in terms of general technique that is evolving the sport.....the technique of most arts has been in place for decades, centuries and even millenia. Nobody is reinventing this and coming up with new moves that are changing the game lol. The evolution is in the athleticism....tied to training, better understanding of muscles, speed, weightlifting, biology, recovery, diet...........all of these improvements are increasing athletic potenitial first and foremost, which in turn promotes increased technical ability.

The same thing can be seen when comparing team sports from 40 years ago. You're not seeing anything new nowadays in terms of the general movesets and technical ability - you're seeing everything at a faster and more precise pace because of the difference in athleticism in the athletes.

NFL players used to look like average dads ffs, now they're brick shithouses who are twice as fast and three times as strong. What they're generally doing hasn't changed, the athlete has changed.
