Media 40-year-old Stephen Thompson thinks he’s still got time for another title run

Does he deserve a title shot? No. Do I want to see Colby continue getting biennial title shots with single wins against washed gatekeepers in between? Also no. Fuck it, I'll support Wonderboy vs Leon with one more win against literally any ranked fighter.

What do you mean "one more" win against a ranked fighter?

Holland isn't even ranked at 170.

I mean one more win, and that win should be against a ranked fighter.

Not that I'm being overly serious anyway, I'm just sick of the log jams the UFC creates at the top of divisions and I'll support just about anything that breaks that up amd gets some other fighters into the mix to see some new match ups. 170 has been particularly ridiculous. Since Usman won the title four years ago we've just seen him, Colby, Edwards, and fucking Masvidal twice each with one title shot for Burns thrown in to spice things up.

Hes ranked 8th(counting Leon) and IMO everyone ranked above him is a bit better. There's really no path for him.

Maybe if he goes 185 wins a fight or two he could get a title shot. But 170? That ship has sailed. If Thompson had beat Woodley IMO he'd be out of the UFC like Woodley because he'd have gotten harder fights on the way down.

Colby has ducked his way into another title shot, so now WB has hopes to do the same thing

Top 5 are tough for him, but he actually is kind of a nightmare matchup for Shavkat. Blitzing striker with dangerous hands who's fast to retreat and difficult to cut off.
Shavkat is not too different from Luque in his striking approach. He likes to strike volume and push forward, but if anything, he relies even more on his chin to move forward.
If his body holds up, it's not impossible that Wonderboy could beat him.

I can't see it personally, far too many good grapplers ranked above him who he would have to face.

Actually...<JagsKiddingMe>

This is 100% correct. Since getting two title shots, Colby has only fought Masvidal. Wonderboy has a win over Mas and probably would have beaten him again.

I knew Colby's shot was undeserved but I'm just realizing how bad it is.

I like Wonderboy and I guess it can't be completely ruled out but his age and his style are not a good mix for another title run. Good luck to him.

He’s still fighting pretty well for his age thus far. But I doubt it. Leon would be a good guy for him to challenge if he can earn it where Leon is a striker. But doubt he makes it To another title shot

Stephen Thompson is one of the good guys in MMA, the real NMF champ. I would like to see him at least try. Maybe move up in weight, seeing that there are more strikers in the 185 division?

A rematch against Whitaker, and if he wins, a title shot against Adesanya would be a great ending to his career. Crazier things have happened in MMA

Bulk to mw
Fight Bobby knuckles again
If he somehow wins, a fight with him vs Izzy is money
That is probably more likely than him getting a ww shot honestly
<Goldie11>

goddamn right. this is the solution. bulk up to MW where there are barely any wrestlers outside of Dolidze and Vettori, smack the shit out of one or two MW contenders and then BAM, Wonderboy vs Izzy for the MW title in a guaranteed thrilling striking battle.
this is how its gotta go boys

No business ever getting a titleshot when you flat out refuse certain matchups
