1. Die Hard
2. Lethal Weapon
3. The Naked Gun
4. Dirty Harry

A few of these I dont really consider cop movies but they have cops in it so you might feel differently

The French Connection and the Departed stand out for me on the list so far.

Dirty Harry rules of course too

First 3 are easy, Colors, Robocop, Naked Gun, had to choose between End of Watch and Training Day for #4, went with Training Day because it didnt have a magical bullshit ending like End Of Watch did, even though End Of Watch was much more raw and gritty

Robocop made me not wanna be a cop hahahahaah

I was 7yr olds and the way they kill Murph was so unbelievably brutal to me.

But lookin at it now, its so hilariously over the top, that it's kind of funny.

I L-O-V-E LOVE this movie. It's full of that 80's creativity and fun that we are sorely missing now

Agreed. I rewatched it a while back now maybe 3 or so years ago and I was blown away by it. I didn't think it would hold up but it does. I also watched this movie as a kid 9-10 and it's crazy the stuff my parents would let me watch.

I remember the chills I would get, when you first see the scene where you hear Robocop walking through the police station. And then when he's shooting his gun in the range. GOD, they cant do it like that anymore !

The movie hit just the right notes with funny/serious

Yea I was so excited for the remake and they even got an actor I really liked. Unfortunately they ruined it. They didn't understand what made the old movies special and that it was much more than just a man becoming a cool robot cop.

The thing is there is almost a radicalism to the way movies like this were made back then. CGI couldnt solve the problems, so they would go to insane lengths to achieve not just the special fx, but the tone of the whole film.

Tough one. In some of these the bad guys were more intriguing and had more screen time than the cop or cops did.
