Of all the mess the portal and NIL have created, this seems the easiest to fix. Why don’t they just keep the window for coaches to leave and kids to enter the portal closed until after the championship game? Its a shit show every year, and its only going to get worse.
There were kids announcing portal intentions and sitting mid season. What they need is not only what you proposed, but a penalty of some sort for early announcements and sitting with no mitigating factors. If you quit just because you didn’t get the starting job, too bad.

To be fair, the school told him to find another job. They let him finish out his contract but didn’t offer him an extension. He really didn’t have a choice. The school sort of made their own bed here. I get what they were going for, and it worked and they won a conference title. But they sacrificed the bowl season for it. As well as the next couple years probably.
