Old lady is looking for a new commuter car, any opinions/experiences would be appreciated

The Civic is the easiest to customize

If you don't live your life a quarter mile at a time, I would rank

Corolla: Toyota reliability is legendary, and the design has improved a lot the last few years

Civic: The best design out of the three in my opinio, though I hear Honda reliability has declined lately

Jetta: No experience with it, but I'm skeptical of European cars with its higher maintenance costs. Plus VW could fake its MPG like it did with emissions

I would never buy a Volkswagen after they got caught scamming all their customers and several government entities. Buncha sociopaths running that company.

Can't go wrong with Corolla or civic. I'd probably go Corolla so teenage boys won't steal parts from it.

I still putter around in a 2000 corolla when gas is like it is now, great car. Just not sure if they got any better since their hiccups several years back

VW used to be far more reliable back when they were all made in Germany.

No issue with either Civic or Corolla as they are both proven and reliable cars.

Jetta shouldn't even be used in the same sentence as the luxurious Corolla and Civic.

It depends how long she wants to keep it. If it's forever then go with the toyota and honda. The Jettas are nice but then they tend to break down after a few years. They are the better drive though. Old school rabbits and golfs are fun though

My old Jetta tried to kill me, so screw Jettas.

My gf has a 21 corolla, and I test drove a 22 civic when I waited for the dealer to prep my accord hybrid touring. The civic is much better in every way imo.

Wouldn't take the jetta for free

The 2022 Corolla SE (sport edition) and the Civic are comparably priced. One way to think about them is that the Civic will outperform the Corolla in most categories (handling, comfort, speed, tech), but the Corolla has the edge in reliability.

If you're just looking for a car to get from point A to B and last you for 200-300 k miles, go with the Toyota. If you're looking for more of a driving experience and the full package, go for the Civic. The Corolla is still a solid car despite lagging behind the Civic in driving experience, however.

Please FFS do not buy a VW. They suck in terms of reliability. I'll never buy a VW again, had the GTI and after 36k miles, I had one (expensive) problem after another, conveniently after the warranty expired. They're a shit company.

That car is fucken hilarious. Wow. lol Now that's modifying a vehicle.

Civic has the nice CVT transmission and gets up and goes pretty good for a four banger.

I worked at a chain auto parts store when The Fast and the Furious came out. All that unreal shit pulling into the parking lots. I miss that era of vehicle modifications. It made driving around all that more entertaining.

I dont know where everyone is getting their information about VW reliability (aside from the gentlemen who gave examples), but I just retired my 2012 Jetta with 450k on it. No major issues, repairs are relatively reasonable as long as you go with a local shop instead of a dealership, after its out of warranty. I don't believe the VW is any less reliable than the other 2.

You got lucky.
