Made this thread because I didn't see any others.

So far, the major results include:
-Duzao Lopes winning the blue absolute by keylock?
-Kennedy Maciel (Cobrinha's son) beats Jonata Ramos to win purple light feather in the dying seconds of the match. These two have fought each other many times before, and are both really young, so I could see a kind of Paulo Miyao/Marcio Andre situation unfolding here.
-Other notable things that happened in the light feather division include Mason Monsevais being defeated in his first match and Jonata Ramos defeating Huseyn Abaszada in the semi finals, a really good purple belt from Frontline who defeated Kennedy at Abu Dhabi this year
-Joao Gabriel Batista De Sousa won the purple rooster. I don't really follow rooster as much, so I am less familiar with him, but he came runner up at blue rooster during last year's worlds.

Looking forward to purple feather, since that is my division. I'm not competing, though :(

nice, thanks for the update. wish I could watch.

calling Devhonte Johnson to get double gold at purple.

When is the the middle purple matches?

VB Social Project and Checkmat athlete Jonatas Gomes takes silver in light featherweight purple belt, falling to Cobrinha's son (who he defeated at Pans) in the final. Incredible accomplishment. Favela jiu jitsu!

He's been at my school in LA for the last few weeks and is training with us through NoGi Worlds this year. He's a really nice kid and has a silky smooth, technical game. He gives me a hard time and I outweigh him by 60 lbs. He'll do well in the future.

Any info on Andrew Wilste? Blue belt middle I think

I have a female teammate in the finals of the featherweight blue belt division. Gonna be bad ass to see her win.

I will be watch the world's live tomorrow. Can't wait to hear the crowd during blackbelts brackets.

Is it just me or there isn't a lot of hype for the worlds this year?

Brazilians dominated Day 1.In the past, Americans and Europeans were really making progress in the lower belts. Not so much this year. With many of the talented teachers/comp[etitors coming to teach here in the US, i'd have expected Americans to do much better at the lower belts.

My friend Deandre Corbe lost in the finals to him and took silver. Deandre is a fixture on the East Coast scene and is a regular at US Grappling tournaments. Congrats to both -- very bright futures.

It may be that bjj as a profession has lost its luster.

This is what I was thinking. I also think the meta-gaming of the rule structure that is necessary for modern competition BJJ has made it less appealing to many.

When do the black belt weight divisions begin? I keep forgetting about the time difference.

Is this much more necessary than a few years ago?
It seems to be mostly necessary to work around the inability to pass guard at the lower weight classes.

Does anyone know how Baiano beat Satoshii in black belt lightweight? Italo versus Jeff Cummings should be a great match too and the winner gets Bruno Frazatto. Black belt feather.

Just read that Tinoco beat V Estima and Victor laid his black belt on the mat retiring.

Anyone see that?
