Both didn't get along during their time at Barcelona. Mostly because, while Riquelme was damn good as an attacking player, he didn't do good on the defensive side. So, the Argentinian prodigy ended up as a benchwarmer and then got canned when Ronaldinho arrived.

Think of a Neycan in the early 2000s mixed with the Mourinho-Hazard deal right now (or Mata before). If van Gaal deems you not good enough for his system, he'll fuck you up, no matter who you are. And odds don't look good for Januzaj IMO.

As for Riquelme's career? Think of a Kevin Randleman: underwhelming results compared with the amount of potential. A major what if.

Giggs wouldn't be a bad bench player to be honest, he still has the passing and ability to play in midfield.

Riquelme failed at Barca because he didn't get his much needed central midfield role due to Xavi and got shunted out pointlessly to the left wing. Like Scholes for England. Riquelme's the kind of player you build a team around, wasn't gonna happen with the emergence of Xavi

Wishful thinking re: Januzaj when LvG's happy to use Robben for the Dutch team (And Bayern of course)

Still don't see the correlation between Januzaj and Riquelme.......and Januzaj is 18 years old. Unlikely he's gonna be a constant starter for a few years anyway.
