Lauzon vs Varner would probably be a close 2nd.

I agree. However, IMO, there should be two fights of the year award: one for title fights, one for non-title fights. Actually, I think that should be the case for every category.

So my awards would go:
Non-title fight of the year: Poirier vs. Korean Zombie (it was worth all the hype, and then some)
Title fight of the year: Henderson vs. Edgar I
Submission of the year: Amoussou vs. Baker
Knockout of the Year: Barboza vs. Etim
Title-holding Fighter of the Year: Benson Henderson (although Ronda Rousey makes a strong case for that award, too)
Non-title holding Fighter of the Year: Johny Hendricks
Comeback (Titleholder) Fighter of the Year: Georges St-Pierre
Comeback (Non-Titleholder) Fighter of the Year: Jamie Varner
Best (Non-UFC) Rising Star: Michael Chandler (Bellator)
Story of the Year: Injuries lead to cancelled bouts, reshuffled events, and the cancellation of UFC 151.
I'm torn between UFC 153 and UFC 154 for event of the year
