So I decided to give up on the 90s thread because I felt it was going to be too difficult since the 90s era of films is arguably the best of all time. I was having issues with placing 3 movies (kept rotating them) and I only watched 7 so far lol

So I decided to do the 00s instead, which will be a lot easier imo

00s Movie Rankings

1. The Dark Knight - 9
2. No Country For Old Men - 9
3. Training Day - 9
4. LOTR Fellowship of the Ring - 9
5. Casino Royale - 8

7. Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of the Black Pearl - 8

10. Crash - 8
11. Sin City - 7
12. Apocalypto - 7

Movie 1: LOTR Fellowship of the Ring

Synopsis: A meek Hobbit from the Shire and eight companions set out on a journey to destroy the powerful One Ring and save Middle-earth from the Dark Lord Sauron.

My Rating: 9/10

This was maybe my 3rd or 4th time watching this and it's still excellent everytime. Here's the thing, I think the story itself is dumb, the whole ring and it's power and hobbits ect, it's dumb to me. However, the movie is still excellent even though I'm not a fan of the story. The action, the visuals and the suspense are excellent. The overall cast is very good and so are the characters.
Frodo, Aragorn and Gandalf were easily the best characters so far that stood out the most to me. (Gollum can only be seen for a few seconds is why he isn't listed)

I don't think there's anything I dislike about the movie. It's an excellent film thats pretty close to a masterpiece just not quite there for me. I do think the entire trilogy together is a masterpiece though.

1. Lord of the rings is a masterpiece imo, Peter Jackson did an excellent job keeping it pretty close to the books that you can.
2. Gladiator was a great movie also, I might be the biggest fan Ridley Scott movies but I felt like he knocked it out of the park. Russell Crowe makes this movie so much better than I expected it would be too.

Lotsa good shit from 2000s. U seen the ones i underlined?

Both are amazing. Crowe has never matched that. He has done some great stuff like LA Confidential and a Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man. But that was his pinnacle role and performance. As for LOTR, I miss the days when movie makers just made epic great movies with no need to check boxes for wokeness. Just pick the best person for the role. That movie was cast perfectly.

Movie 2: Gladiator

My Rating: 8/10

This movie was very very close at knocking at the door of a 7 than an 8 but since the ending was great, I'll give it an 8 for now.

This was at one time one of my favourite movies but the more I watch it the less I like it. It can be boring at times, I thought the beginning was somewhat boring up until Maximus gets betrayed. Quintus was a very confusing character to me. He was loyal to Maximus but then betrays him quickly in the beginning, then at the end when Maximus is fighting Commudus, he betrays Commudus, but this is right after he throws Maximus' sword.

Maximus army was suppose to be loyal to him yet his 2nd in command betrays him and then none of his army except Cicero comes back to help him.

Even though it was more common at the time, I'm not a fan of watching the brother/sister romance. It's really odd and off-putting.

While I enjoyed watching Maximus fight as a gladiator the most, the scene where the tiger leaps onto his back did bother me a bit. Tigers weigh well over 500 lbs not to mention they're known for their strength. The tiger jumps on Maximus back and he knocked it off with ease. Not to mention there's not a scratch on him.

If the film didn't end as well as it did this movie would easily be a 7/10 for me. Fortunately I felt Maximus getting his revenge and then finding his family in the afterlife was the best way to go and it was done very well.

As good as Russell Crowe was in here, I still think Joaquin Phoenix was better.
