Pakistan schools were burnt down by unidentified persons in coordinated attacks in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Karachi:
Twelve girls' schools have been burnt down by unidentified persons in coordinated attacks in Pakistan's restive Gilgit-Baltistan, triggering protest by local residents who sought safety for educational institutions which are often attacked by the militants, a media report said on Friday.

The schools in Chilas town, about 130-kilometre from Gilgit, were targeted late last night by unidentified men who also damaged school property across Diamer district, police said.

"Explosions were also set off in two schools," Geo News reported, quoting police officials.

Following the attacks, local residents staged a protest at Siddique Akbar Chowk demanding the arrest of culprits and seeking safety for educational institutes which are often targeted by the militants, it said.

Police have started a search operation in the area to arrest the perpetrators. According to the district administration, the schools were under-construction.

Girls' schools are often attacked in the northern areas of Pakistan.

In December 2011, at least two girls' schools were partially damaged in low-intensity explosions in Chilas.

In 2004, girls' schools in Chilas came under a string of attacks. Nine schools of which eight were girls' schools were attacked and destroyed in five days in the area in February.

Terrorists have also blown up educational institutions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

According to a report, about 1,500 schools have been destroyed in the tribal belt during the last 10 years.

Nobel Prize winner and education activist Malala Yousafzai was also shot by the Taliban in 2012 for advocating girls' education in Swat.

In 2017, the Human Rights Watch (HRW) in its report stated that attacks by the Taliban and other militant groups disrupted the education of hundreds of thousands of children, particularly girls, in Pakistan.

Some news from what might be the worst place on earth. Every time we see 'feminists' get angry about some innocuous bullshit it's important to remind ourselves that there still exist places in the world that are literally hundreds of years behind. Why should I take a feminist seriously when they are decrying air conditioning as sexist when shit like this is happening?

To be fair, this has everything to do with white men and the crusades. So back off

Edit: that is what Twitter taught me anyways

What!?!?!?! Violence against women in Pakistan??? No.....

Every day I come in here I develop a better understanding of what people refer to as "outrage porn."

Send Lebron James over there to build some more...

Hmm.

It probably would not trigger their fears so much, if the West was not awfully busy importing, or else trying to import the problem cultures for typically insulting reasons.

my paki friend use to tell me how different sects of islam use to do drivebys in pakistan. basically it was like crips vs bloods.

Well.. Interesting discussion so far, but this is of course a horrible thing and Pakistan sucks dicks. Any chance whatsoever the government is going to do anything about this?

But Karachi aint in the north of Pakistan. Its as far south as Pakistan can be. IT is right along the arabian Sea.

you should take a feminist seriously, because you do not live in pakistan. you live in a developed country. why do you ask silly questions that you already know the answer to? whats your real angle in making this thread?

All of the Western feminists, male and female, should move to Pakistan and work on fixing the problems there.

Making sure the arsonists have enough fuel.

Shit situation but weird argument against feminism in the US.

Shit situation but weird argument against feminism in the US.

Feminism thrives in the West (for better of worse) because the open and tolerant culture allows it to thrive. The idiots who bitch and whine about "the patriarchy" and "oppression" would be executed in a place like Pakistan. Feminism will not thrive in Pakistan because the culture will not tolerate it. Feminists like to brag about how hard they fought for equality, but women's rights were inevitable given the type of culture we have in the West. Feminism takes far too much credit for what the culture and advancement in technology has accomplished.

If feminism is as effective as it claims to be, then why does it only thrive in civilized cultures that are open and tolerant?

In order for them to obtain massive US support, announce that bin Laden's hiding there.

Oh wait,

He WAS hiding there...

oh devout changed his post while I had a phone call. Anyway.

This sounds like it would be a shitty semantic discussion about what feminism means. It can mean many things from crazy feminists you may think represent all feminists to equity feminists like Christina Hoff Summers to Pakistani-American Sarah Haider who is often speaking up against this type of thing in Pakistan. My friend Anila posted about this incident earlier today. I haven't asked her but I would bet she calls herself a feminist.

I haven't done much reading on feminism in Pakistan but I know there are two main types - secular and Islamic. They have a long way to go but there are feminists there.
