Seriously though, I think it just boils down to population growth and expanding the tax base. The long term plan is to use immigrant fertility rates to boost the population and thus, tax revenues. They know there will be unrest in the short term but they wanted to downplay/cover up the inevitable conflicts that happen as immigration is booming. They were playing the long game, not expecting the short game to explode so much (especially with so much control or exertion of control over the media). At least that's my take. They honestly view this as nothing more than a bump in the road but hope it blows over so they can get back on track with the long term plan.

I wanted to create a thread about this.

Basically it's all about GDP growth. You need GDP growth at all cost according to the neo-classical economic theory.

Simplified, GDP growth basically comes from :
- Labor input
- Capital input
- Productivity

The economic case for immigration is to have growth in the labor input.

However, theoretically, if enough is invested in an economy and/or productivity is good enough, you hardly need growth in the labor input.

But here is how I see it : for politicians, it is much easier to open borders than to invest more in infrastructure (pretty much how governments can affect the capital input part), or to invest in university research (pretty much how government can affect the productivity part).

So advanced economies are flooded with immigration because it is the easiest way for the government to achieve growth.

There is also the taxation aspect. Corporations are being taxed less and less. So you need a higher population base to provide taxes.

Obviously there are hundreds of other factors and what I said is very simplified but IMO :

TL;DR : the idea that immigration is an inevitable tool to achieve GDP growth is vastly exagerated, and used by policy makers to avoid more difficult choices.

Not beyond the realms of possibility. Terrorists communicate through social media on a regular basis. If the Rapugees had been in country for long enough, they would have had access to the internet.
