Crime 10 dead in Canada school shooting

How are the gun laws in Canada
Pretty strict. I'm curious of this. I'm assuming it was a parent's bolt action hunting rifle or pump action shotgun. That's about all you're allowed to own up there.

I haven't yet seen anything about the weapon used.

  • Canadian name the suspect in a school and home shooting in British Columbia as 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar
  • Eight people were killed and 25 people injured in the attacks at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and a home - police earlier said nine were killed
  • The dead include an adult female educator, three female students and two male students between the ages of 13 and 17
  • Two other victims, an adult female and a male youth, were found in a local residence. Police say they were the suspect's mother and step-brother
  • They say the suspect was "born as a biological male, who.... approximately six years ago began to transition to female, and identified as female"
  • Most of the students killed were born in 2012 or 2013. Police "don't have an idea yet" of motive
  • Police say they attended the suspect's residence on multiple occasions over the past several years, dealing with mental health concerns

I saw a twitter post that he had killed his mother and brother... But couldn't find confirmation.

Thinking his mother pushed the trans stuff onto him

I mean... the dude had already burned the house down. He needed serious mental health assistance, not transitioning

No way he killed 8 and injured almost 60 with a bolt action rifle.

I have been admonished, viciously, by leftist posters here for pointing out that there is a growing trend of Trans school shooters. They all seem to have a few things in common that surround many Trans-people: hormone treatment, SSRI/anti-depressants, and a history of mental illness.

One-off's and anecdotal evidence start to trend into a pattern once you start looking.

Geeze. I didn't see the injured number

I just saw the 2 killed at home and 6 at a school and that's unfortunately doable with a 30-06. 60 rounds off from a bolt rifle tho not really.

Unless those injuries are a bunch of stuff from kids trampling to run away? And not 60 more gunshot wound victims?

wtf 60???? Earlier today is said 10 killed, 35 injured, one of the dead being the shooter. 60 is almost double that, damn

That was just was Scerpi said. I should have looked it up before responding

I’m seeing the same 30 something number as you. I wish they would differentiate how many injured are from gun shot wounds or if some injuries are like sprained ankles or cuts needing stitches while scrambling to run away

You see anything on the gun used?

Looks like Brave A.I found it before the press did :

Jesse Van Rootselaar, an 18-year-old transgender woman, has been identified as the suspect in the mass shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia, Canada, on February 10, 2026. She was born male but began transitioning to female approximately six years ago and identified as female socially and publicly.

Van Rootselaar opened fire at the school and a nearby residence, resulting in nine deaths, including herself. She was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the school. The victims at the school included a 39-year-old female teacher, three 12-year-old female students, and two male students aged 12 and 13. Two additional victims—her 39-year-old mother and 11-year-old stepbrother—were found dead at their home, where the shooting occurred before the school attack.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) confirmed that Van Rootselaar had a history of mental health-related police calls at her family home and had previously been apprehended under the Mental Health Act. Firearms were seized from the home in the past, though the lawful owner had petitioned for their return. She had an expired firearms license and no guns registered in her name at the time of the incident.

The RCMP stated there is no evidence that the victims were targeted specifically, and authorities believe Van Rootselaar acted alone. The investigation is ongoing, with recovered weapons and her background under review. Prime Minister Mark Carney ordered flags to be flown at half-mast in mourning.

My bad.. I saw 59 somewhere and was going off memory. There were numbers all over the place.

No doubt they will be tightened up even further after this.

My fault! I saw 59 somewhere and was going off memory. I should have taken a moment to confirm. Apologies.

Still.. I stand by the comment. No way with a bolt action rifle.

I heard in the car running errands earlier it was an sks but I'm not sure what I had on when I heard it and can't currently find anything to confirm it.

I'm pretty sure there's a picture of the shooter holding a hunting rifle. I don't know enough about rifles to identify the caliber, though.

Unconfirmed stuff but I’m seeing that cops frequently went to their house for mental health episodes and they tried to burn the house down once

The only type of gun control I’m ok with are red flag type cases (with a judge involved. Not just cops) where someone is clearly a threat to community even if they haven’t yet broken a law enough to be arrested and held.

Does Canada not have red flag laws?

Got that picture ? I might be able to tell.

@My Spot also seems a good bet for identifying it.
