I don’t buy that 1 in 5 are gay, a lot of these kids suffer from other issues so they’re looking to lash out at something, and this social contagion gives them an out in a way.

This is pretty much the exact opposite of the reasoning typically given. I always hear that identifying as LGBT is due to wanting to fit in since it is a trendy thing.

But there are plenty of sane, lucid and respectable gay people like Douglas Murray for example.

Can you put a percentage on how many gays you think are sane, lucid, and respectable?

If you read the actual article, it shows that things have leveled off. None of the other categories seemed to jump other than ‘other lgbt’, which went from 2% to 8%. More categories, exposure through pop-culture, and men admitting they’re into dudes probably makes things seem like a free fall. Add the amount of transgender talk, non-binary people (controversial opinion, like @Mr Holmes said, I think a lot of these people will ‘grow out’ of it/it’s kind of a label that is surface-level for a lot, imo).

Nothing controversial about it. Sexuality exists on a spectrum and people change. Add them together and it's inevitable that some people's sexuality will shift. Especially when surveying a population that can include people in their early 20s.

The funny thing is, depending on the readers perspective and/or beliefs, they can disagree with wildly different parts of that paragraph. Doesn't mean any of it is wrong.

Both those things can be true. In a society where being gay is more socially acceptable more people are going to be open about being gay.

I really can’t, I have no idea what the numbers and percentages are but anyone who lives a good life and just happens to have that sexual preference is perfectly fine in my opinion.

Anyone going out of their way to flaunt it while showing contempt for certain social norms probably has serious mental issues and insecurities imo.

Yes I would say that’s correct, having that sexual preference does not necessarily make one insane, I have no problem with it.
