Media “When Charles Oliveira feels the pressure and power, he gives up. Always” ~ Islam Makhachev

Do you think Islam is right?

Some fighters are great when pressed, and some fighters have difficulties dealing with that pressure and are better when they can dictate the pace.

Oliveira is a fighter who doesn't fight as well under pressure. Adesanya is one of them too. Like it or hate it, Islam is right

You're bending Islam's words to make them more thoughtful than they were. He explicitly said that Charles always gives up when he feels pressure and power, making sure to hammer home that exact point by making "always" a standalone sentence, and that's factually incorrect as he's come back from being hurt against several of the top fighters in the division.

I think he means power and pressure on the ground. The Dagi style is geared around wearing on opponents until they break and then submitting them.

I like Islam, but calling out Charles heart is starting to turn into a sort of “Do Bronx” curse.

His last three opponents who questioned his heart all ended up on the receiving end of some amazing comeback finishes.

the difference here is that Islam was the only one who was able to capitalize when the fight hit the ground because he wasn’t scared of his BJJ.

if Charles tightens up his striking defense (and I doubt he does), then it’ll be an interesting night.

I still got Islam tho. He’s a more cerebral fighter who doesn’t make unforced errors

I can see a scenario where Islam gets top control and looks to maul Charles ala Paul Felder.

Its not always the case, but Idk if he can mentally get over what Islam did to him the first fight.

Islam is so unlikable

Dude gets a shortcut a title shot to appease investors from Abu Dhabi, and basically gets gifted a decision after that against someone who was from the division below... Champ, yes, still.. Why you talking like you Khabib. You clearly aren't.
Alot of people like him,and he is the champ. When your the champ you can talk shit, otherwise whats the point?

"Sorry guys cant talk shit or Cooliox brother will get mad"

Really I would say most of his recent sucess has come from putting the pressure on his opponents, not letting them fight the slower standup fight they want to.

You could argue I spose that makes Islam a bad matchup for him as he always has the potential to take him down and really control the pace of the fight.

He wants to be the pressuring one but he's still gotten hit hard and had some issues in some high profile fights and still come out with the win, hence I'd say that it's factually wrong to say that he always quits when he feels pressure and power. That's also why I said that the other poster twisted the comments into something more thoughtful, because it's true that Charles performs worse when he can't put his pressure on. It's just not the same thing to say as that he always quits.

Charles said it himself, that wasn't him in there. Now, we're gonna find out if that's true or not in this fight but fighting Chandler, Dustin and Justin back to back and taking a lot of damage in every fight definitely hurt him. I feel like coming back so soon after the Justin fight definitely had an effect on Charles. And they're gonna bring up this quitter thing again? Really?

So who was it then?

This criticism can apply to pretty much most fighters. But with Charles it's not true at all. Prior to the fight with Islam, he faced adversity and was knocked down and hurt by Chandler, Poirier and Gaethje and didn't give up and came back to win those fights. Even in his fight with Pettis that I just watched, Charlres was hurt multiple times but kept fighting hard.

Chandler is low IQ and the other two guys arent confident enough to go to the ground with oliveira after rocking him so he got to recover. Deep inside charles is still the same quitter but his phenomenal bjj scares guys from getting the job done so either he gets a chance to recover or he flops onto his back when shit gets rough standing.

What happened then in the Benny fight?
Beneil said that he will not be afraid to follow Charles on the ground and that he has better BJJ than Charles… but somehow he was lost in Charles guard and then when Charles wanted to stand up he just TKOd Benny.

Was charles ever seriously hurt in the beneil fight? Thats the point. If beneil hurt him and followed him to the ground you may have a point but as you said charled was better than him on the ground. He checks out mentally when somebody hurts him and he cant scare them away with his bjj to recover.

My bad, I understood that you ment being in a bad position and getting pressured overall, not just being rocked.
He had zero quit against the champ last time in the first round and no problems playing guard. Same thing in the Benny fight. Actually in the second one Charles dictated where to fight took place, not Benny.
But Yes, I agree. One needs to seriously hurt Charles to be able to outgrapple him.
No wonder he likes to play possum.

First and foremost, what does going to ground with him have to do with giving up and him lacking heart?? If anything, you can criticize his submission defense. Heart is more about battling through adversity and continuing to fight hard when hurt regardless where the fight is. And he's shown on many occasions to battle through being hurt and come back to win. Where the fight takes place is irrelevant. This is just a way you guys wanna spin the narrative around in your favor, but it make no sense. Charles having about 3 seconds on his back is not anytime to recover lol, he gets right back and back to fighting, that is heart.

Chandler bad fight IQ?? Ughh, did you even watch the fight with Olivera?? The moment he dropped Charles he went right after him in his guard and was GNPing him for like 3 mins straight. So not only does debunk your point about him having bad fight IQ, but it also does about fighters not following Charles to the ground.

Charles has more heart than most guys on the roster. He's proven that vs elite competition. Anyone who questions this is an imbecile.

So what about Chandler??? Here's the fight...

He rocked him and knocked him down and then went after him with GNP, he was on top for 3 mins trying to finish him on the ground, in Charles guard. Charles took a load of hard shots on his back. Then round 2 he comes out on fire and finishes the fight.

So what now????
