Social ‘Life-threatening cold’ expected as polar vortex stretches across U.S. after deadly weekend flooding

At least we've had some sun in the mornings, and since there's a layer of ice over everything, it's incredibly bright. Nice, as long as you're looking at it from inside :)

It's weird and interesting watching bits of tree being blown across the yard on top of the ice but it doesn't make up for how much I hate winter. Not even a little bit. I can hardly wait for it to flock off.
the sun does obscure the overall misery to an extent i guess, but a frozen tundra does not sound like fun at all. as a dane, i hate winter as well and one of the reasons i don't live in europe. denmark is not necessarily that cold, just wet and miserable for 8-9 months.

A few days ago, it snowed all night then rained during the day and then snowed again, wind blowing a gale the whole time. Everything froze up solid. We took a snow day the next day to get dug out and wait for the roads to be cleared. The next day was sunny but was so cold you could get frostbite with minimal exposure. Then, yesterday the cycle started all over again. So here we are home again. Today, I couldn't clear the driveway because it's frozen solid. After lunch, I'll have a go with the butt of my axe and see if I can break it up.

Fuck that shit... Worked on jobsite for years up in that shit. Never again.

I've got a pool and the beach for summers.... plus lots of hot latinas in bikinis.

Keep that shit up there.

Been helping people clean up yesterday and today, just finished fixing some plumbing problems caused by the floods. A lot of the region got hit hard by heavy snowfall a few weeks back, so the mountains were already full of moisture, causing excess runoff into the roads and rivers.

Right now, high winds are driving snow horizontally outside and the temperature (w/ windchill) is -16 and dropping. Tonight it will be -25. I'm glad we stayed home today instead of trying to drive home in this, which is why we did that, of course. Around here you need to pay fairly close attention to the forecast to avoid being caught out somewhere you shouldn't be.

Edit: I can hardly see the other side of the yard now.

stay warm.

If only we would of given up more plastic straws for paper
straws. Given up more paper grociery bags for plastics. But most importantly paid more taxes to the government this wouldn’t be happening .
Gotta protect them sea turtles, brah

We got 3 inches here the other day and I was miserable.

Maybe with a new president my neighbors can get more than 750 dollars?

So about that weather control conspiracy?!?!?

stay warm.
Roger that. Before the snow started I brought extra wood in from the shed so we're good if the power goes out; and have you ever seen a kotatsu? We've got it covered (lol). There's a heater built into the underside of the table frame. In warmer weather, you take the cover away and screw the tabletop to the fame for a regular coffee table. Would recommend.
