It's kind of disconcerting how people can be completely 86'd from the internet now a days. It's now a weapon that can be used to silence those with differing political views, which is much more of a threat to Democracy than Trump badmouthing CNN, or whatever liberals are currently whining about.

I'm not really a fan of McInnes and I realize he has said some dumb shit, including advocating his "Proud Boys" to commit violence. I just find it curious that these social media bannings disproportionately effect the right wing. There are so many violent leftist extremists out there, who condone violence and hateful views, but they are never deplatformed.

Maybe Mr. McInnes just isn't good business these days. And he's not gone from the internet. He can throw up a website, create a blog, post his own videos from his own server. There's plenty of opportunity for him to stay accessible by those who support him.

It's not like the old tv days where if you get canned from some show then you never have another chance to get in front of the screen.

I'm not a Trump supporter but look at the comments of every single tweet he makes. People are saying some really derogatory comments that could be classified as "hate speech" in some countries. I'm all for tweeting whatever you want but the hypocrisy is mind blowing. On one hand, these people are banning people that they don't agree with while using the same hate speech against their opponents and getting away with it.

Personally, I hope that pretty much ALL forms of social media become so restrictive that the general public turns from them in mass. I hope our society becomes so restrictive, controlling and pc driven that it chokes the very life out of our society. A huge part of our problem in the United States is our very success. It would only work if it were brought under the rule of law. In other words, if you are a company whose primary product is, literally, communication, the government will not allow you to abridge the first amendment rights of any citizen who is utilizing your service.

If consumers understood that it was against the law for an entity like Twitter to suspend an account (for anything less than what is currently deemed criminal speech) the idea of boycotting the entity would be meaningless. This would protect both the speech rights of consumers and the viability of companies in the communication business. It's win/win.

(The only real "losers" would be guys like Jack Dorsey who can no longer play god.)
