I gotta agree with shadow_priest_x on this, bad reviews don't make a film bad. Especially the type of film that mk is, you could make an amazing mk film but I would say it's not gonna get rave reviews. I don't think I have once used rotten tomatoes to decide if I'll watch a film

Go look at original reviews of films we view as classics nowadays

Here's an article on the thing 1982 and critical reception it got
http://www.denofgeek.com/us/movies/...nters-the-thing-had-an-icy-critical-reception

I've seen MK before, but I don't really remember it, so I don't have an opinion on it. I was looking it up to see what others thought of it. He said it was legitimately well made, but what I quoted from wiki said that it wasn't in some key areas (plot, dialogue, and acting).

Not s huge fan my self really it's just a fun film imo

Wow the poll is so close just like the 1994 version

No Apollo 13, Splash or The Man With One Red Shoe? This was Tom Hank's year. Shame on you.

I choose Heat from that list.

I really liked Braveheart, as a stand alone movie, but it being so far fetched and non-historical brings it down a few notches. I'm not really big on "historical true stories" that end up getting it completely wrong.

I'm having a having a hard time choosing between Leaving Las Vegas and Braveheart.

The alcohol is saying Leaving Las Vegas, but my headless corpse is saying Braveheart.

I remember going to the movies to watch Seven and it had me scared shitless throughout. I was only 12 at the time

William Wallace needs to rally more soldiers to vote here. It was winning earlier before but now lost its lead by one vote

It's the most competitive year that we've had so far. That's more fun that watching one film dominate the rest.

Others:

First Knight
The Basketball Diaries
Tommy Boy
Crimson Tide
Dead Man
The Bridges of Madison County
The Quick and the Dead
Grumpier Old Men
Assassins
Jumanji
Kids

I voted for Casino among the list, but my real answer is Tommy Boy.

Toy Story for sure. Computer animation at that time was essentially unheard of. Toy story is the best movie on the list for what it pioneered.

It was also just a great film all around.

While this year was super tough because so many quality choices that I love I had zero hesitation in choosing Braveheart. Before Gladiator it was my all time favorite movie (Probably 1A and 1B now).

The crazy thing is as good as Mel is as an actor he might be an even better director. He killed it in both those roles in Braveheart. The guy just knows how to tell a story and evoke emotion from an audience.

Another great movie year. Casino for me. My favorite Scorcese movie. Lots of great movies listed in the poll and the OP, but one movie that really resonated with me at the time as a teen was Kids. My friends and I could really relate to that one. It seemed so real as an urban youth at the time. I should also mention Welcome to The Dollhouse.
