WWII Historian: McConnell, Trump put US on Weimar-like path toward "illiberal democracy," disaster

My hope is that at some point they or the persons who like their posts will realize that they are being idiots and maybe dip their toe into a discourse/thinking that will allow them to learn something. I know, I'm an idealist.

It didn't call Trump the cause. It explicitly said he was the symptom.

Open borders: southern border migration was negative during the entirety of Obama's administration and border removals reached all-time highs.

Tranny agenda: please name Obama's tranny agenda policies

Deportations and 'removals' were simply renamed for political reason. And the economy was so fucking bad because of Comrade Obama that job prospects for illegals were shit, so a lot of them left.

you suck.

Article strikes me as a bit hyperbolic, though I imagine it could be (better) argued that the US is one major national emergency away from the hazardous seizing of state power by a megalomaniac authoritarian.

And you never want to be only one step away from that kind of disaster.

Doesnt this make Trump presidency more like the ascent of the Nazi, and everything before Trump like Weimar? I have heard sayings US was like Weimar before Trump became prez. Plus everyone keeps saying Trump and supporters are literally Hitler.

Hi Trotsky,
Since you asked so nicely I'll give you an honest response: no one who would compare the United States of America to Nazi Germany deserves to be heard. America created the concept of individual liberties and the notion of some pseudo intellectual hack having the gall to compare her to the most murderous, genocidal regime of all time is offensive and ignorant. Fuck this guy.

Sincerely,
Liquid Smoke

So, again, you didn't read and are engaging in silly histrionics on the false presumption that the founding history of the United States is being compared to the rise of Nazism, rather than that the current political landscape in the US is politically similar to pre-Nazism Germany.

Shoooooocked.

Color me shocked that you clearly didn't read, yet need to provide cliff notes for a narrative that you want to hear and are able to understand.

Why the fuck do you come into threads where you aren't going to read just to make a shit post that doesn't reflect that which you didn't read?

The article didn't say anything about optics or about Trump being loud or passionate, you fucking moron.

It talked about the distorting and degrading of democratic representation, the withdrawal from international cooperatives and the propagation of zero sum international economic logic, the proliferation of private wealth and corporate influence over democratic discourse, the politicizing of the judiciary, the fragmenting of information, growing economic inequality through union busting, and social discord through partisan propagandizing.

But, of course, all you can conceptualize is some immature and arbitrary complaint about optics, so you project your fictional account onto the other side in an endless cycle of arguing with yourself.

To laugh at you and all the other Liberal retards:)

Trump isn't Hitler. It's no better than a 50/50 chance he'll even win a second term in office. He can't dismantle the government and take supreme power unto himself as Hitler did. Even if he wanted to, the entire US political system is set up to specifically limit the power of the President. Hell, the Republicans had to sweat blood just to get Kavanaugh confirmed, and that's when they controlled both Houses. It's highly unlikely that will still be the case after the Mid Terms.

You know why no one takes Liberals seriously? Because you scare so fucking easily. "Trump is Hitler!" No, he's not, anymore than he's the God-Emperor. He's not going to turn the USA into a Fascist dictatorship. One more time for the Hard of Thinking: even if he wanted to, he couldn't. In the grand scheme of things, the effect he has will be negligible. And easily reversed the next time the Dems get the ball. There are real threats to the world. Trump isn't one of them. Stop shrieking that we're all living in the End Times, accept you lost this fight and concentrate on winning the next one. Which you won't do if you keep acting like a bunch of high school girls who just got their first periods.

Keep Calm and Carry On, old boy;)

Really pretty incredible that you would make a post this long without reading the OP, which would have answered many of these complaints. When you boastfully enter threads to reply without reading, you make yourself look stupid by raising points that are already addressed and making complaints that are null and void.

It wasn't calling Trump "Hitler" and it explicitly said that a fascist dictatorship, and certainly one in which Trump is head, is not a realistic possibility. It did say that McConnell era partisan politics, combined with aggressive bad faith policy by the Republican Party, have resulted in a political landscape very comparable to that of Weimar Germany - where the legitimacy of political institutions are in stark decline, information is fragmented, and ability to redress economic problems through democratic processes is undermined - such that a neo-fascist movement could gain footing as political functionality continues to decline and problems continue to persist.

But go on getting frazzled by thread titles, calling others "retards," and then showing your ass as an hysterical moron who can't be bothered to read a few paragraphs before menstruating all over a thread. Hell, even the thread title itself should have preempted this idiotic spiel, as I purposefully worded it so that this predictable screeching wouldn't happen.

If you want people to take your Threads seriously, perhaps change your username from a man who invented one of the most toxic and destructive political systems in human history. Just sayin';)

Now, as for your sad attempt at a rebuttal: there is no other conclusion to be drawn from the Autistic Screeching in the OP other than the author believes Trump is dragging America down the path of the destruction of democracy, eventually leading to the creation of a Fascist state. Because this is exactly what happened during the Weimer Republic. It's simply a(failed)attempt at a more subtle variation on, "Trump is literally Hitler!" It's semantics of the most transparent kind.

The difference, which Liberals can't seem to get through their heads, is that 2018 USA is not the same as Germany almost a century ago. The entire political landscape is as utterly different as the modern day United Kingdom is from the British Empire. There is no way Trump can have the same effect on US politics as the collapse of Weimer Republic had on Germany. Any more than Putin could turn back the clock and make Russia a Communist state again.

I'm going to the gym now, but I'll leave you with a quote from The Newsroom,

"You know why people don't like Liberals? Because they lose. If Liberals are so fuckin' smart, how come they lose so Goddamn always?"

ail. History professor tries to predict the future based on political propaganda.

Trump did the same thing Bush did, pulled us out of a climate accord that was going to cost us money and that is ALL.

America's output of climate change causing chemicals has DROPPED, not INCREASED.

It is the radical LEFTISTS continual LIES that is going to cause climate change because these ASSHOLES are keeping focused on the U.S. ONLY while China, India and even CANADA is increasing their output levels.

This right here. If you want to really get serious about climate change, you need to address the elephants in the room. Remember the Beijing Olympics where the athletes were worried about air quality affecting their performances?

Im pretty sure France started the whole "individual liberties" thing.

Also there really is no comparison in the large picture between US and Weimar in my opinion, nor Trump and Hitler.

Not to be petty, but this idea took hundreds of years to evolve. Yes, France was absolutely critical to it, along with individual French thinkers like Rousseau. But they also drew upon stuff like the Magna Carta, Classical thinkers, etc.

I read this previously. It's certainly thought provoking. Admittedly, I don't know enough about that time in history to draw the comparisons that the author does. But it's given me a jumping off point to do some more reading.

True, but there are very stark differences between the US constitution and France's. In the French constitution the very first thing it declares is all the rights that an individual has by just being within the French border (you didn't even have to be French to be protected), then it declares what rights the State has. In comparison, the US constitution originally had no Bill of Rights. It only declared what power the State had. The Bill of Rights was never intended and was only included to help with ratification.

What was he saying when Obama was weaponizing the federal agencies and using them against the opposition? Or did he just shrug?
