Wrestling didn´t work against Jones in the 1st fight. What do you guys think DC should...

Jones even admitted he was relying on his chin and waiting for DC to wear himself out.

Yeah, he spent a lot of energy trying to prove he was a better wrestler than Jones, which I think was a decisive factor to his loss.
Absolutely. He needs to abandon TD attempts if he can see they aren't going anywhere.

The question is what does DC need to do to beat Jones in the rematch?

Wrestling Jones didn´t work in the 1st fight. DC got 1 or 2 takedowns but that wasn´t enough, and he spent a lot of energy and Jones bounced back up like in the gif here. So for the second fight, taking Jon down shouldn´t be his strategy.

imo DC´s clinch and dirty boxing are his best weapons to beat Jones. "Forget" about takedowns.

With a reach disadvantage getting inside range is a problem, so DC is obviously gonna eat some shots (he´s fighting the best in the world), but he is pretty good at closing the distance, and connects powerful strikes when he´s in there, but specially on the clinch... so that´s where he should focus: on the clinch.

Check out a few gifs from the Jones, Gus and Rumble fights.

Thoughts?

Jones won thanks to eye poke and winning the grind battle.

DC needs to avoid the body shots better as he gets in and hope that USADA + layoff Jones has much worst strength n conditioning than 38 year old Cormier.

He still needs to wrestle and clinch with Jones to win. Go for takedowns if the opening is there at least to keep Jones guessing but definitely he should not kill his gas tank to land a takedown.

Standing on the outside is a no win situation for him and his short reach.

So yea ... get in safely .... make it dirty and hope he has the superior strength n conditioning this time.

DC Jones thru 3 rounds was close. People forget that.

And that was red flag raising, super low test levels, pre USADA Jones.

Cormier is the first rematch of Jones' career. Jones is someone you can't prepare for normally but Cormier now has a better idea what to expect. But Cormier is also now even older at 38.

Lots of question marks. We will see who embraces the grind this time.

If Jones comes in 100% then he beats DC 10/10 times. Jones simply has a skill set and genetic gifts that elevate him beyond anyone else in the division. Jones' weakest link is probably his striking but DC will be giving up the clinch if he tries to get in close enough to strike with his TRex arms.

Who says he needs to change his game plan against Jones? He can hope that ring rust and coke did a number on Jones and he's not the same fighter

lol all this get Jones to the cage/clinch talk, did you guy not see that Rumble was able pin and push DC to the cage for long periods of time. As much as you guys talk about Jones not being the same, DC is showing signs of not being the same too.

DC needs to eat nothing but rancid garlic fried chicken leading up to the fight. He needs to pressure Jones, take him down, cover up his nose/mouth to make him gasp for air, go north/south, and proceed to unleash a hellacious shit-fart that knocks Jones unconscious.

It's everyone opinion. That's where dc had success, clinch/dirty boxing. He was doing good til he gassed. Groundbreaking stuff ts

Because close range worked so well for Glover....

DC has to use the same strategy as before, with a little higher of a pace. He, just like any other fighter in the world against JBJ, has to be perfect with his gameplan.

Diamond Cutter/Stone Cold Stunner. If all else fails, Outside Interference bt Brock Lesnar + F5

Nice man, obviously they can do it. That wasn´t even the point of the topic, we were just saying how tough they have to be with their approach to cut the distance even if it means taking shots..... You took it literally as I can see.

I hate to say it, but there isn't much he can do, except hope Jones has lost a step somewhere. DC has started to decline. He has definitely lost some of his speed.

He still has his chin and ko power, but as someone posted before, that isn't a good strategy. It might be his best chance though.

Im takin dc if this fight ever happens. Especially if its jj 1st fight back and hes clean

It might not be a bad bet. DC isn't dumb, and he knows how old he is. He might just decide to throw a hail mary in his fight with Jones and then retire.

There's nowhere but down for DC right now. He's racing against the clock and isn't looking as good as he used to. It depends on how good Jones is coming back.
