In the film Cinderella Man the fictional character of Jersey Jim Walnuts (played by Russell Crowe) is a white homeless man who manages to get a fight with the also-white, younger arrogant HW champ because everyone is scared to fight him after he kills a bunch of guys in the ring. Plucky Jim gets the win after he makes himself super-strong by picking up fish for nickels after he has to stop boxing for awhile.
Now we have a white champion who comes from a travelling family, which is obviously not the same as being homeless but does involve living in caravan, fighting a black challenger who is down on his luck but also everyone is scared of because he nearly decapitated an opponent. Ngannou is arrogant but Fury is a humble white guy looking to do well by his large family, and he made himself super strong after coming back from not boxing for a bit. Also just like Russell Crowe in real life Fury gets quite fat in between jobs.
The parallels here are undeniable - will Fury make out like our hero Gerry Cooney and win the title or will Francis crafty, devious schemes and tricks be enough to take it all away from him?
