If champs are getting injured with long layoffs or are stalling the division for their own sake, an interim belt is a must. but too many fake belts makes the sport like a joke.

the actual problem is that there are not nearly ENOUGH championship belts

fans love to see champions fight. therefore the best way to make fans happy is to have more champions fighting more often

the UFC is being myopic by focusing on only 1 or 2 belts per division

for example, the next PPV has Francis Ngannou vs. Derrick Lewis. We make that "African HW Champ" Francis Ngannou vs. "Diamond Belt Intercontinental HW Champion" Derrick Lewis and that fight just become at LEAST 75% more interesting. Minimum!

An inteirm belt should only occur when the Champ’s return is unclear or is 12+ months out.

If say Stiep had a injury that took him out until July 2019 and we could book an inteirm title fight in the next two months I’d be down on one condition.

THE INTIERM CHAMP SHOULD ACTUALLY DEFEND THE FUCKING BELT.

Without this, the belt is a joke since it is a #1 contenders belt. When was the last time someone actually defended their inteirm title?
