6.5 moving at 3500 fps, pretty crazy.

One doesn’t get a rifle that pushes a 127-grain bullet in excess of 3,500 fps because he’s concerned about barrel life. You do that because you like bullets that haul ass and shoot flat.

And shoot flat it does. The load I’ve been using, the 127-grain Barnes LRX, when sighted in 2 inches high at 100 yards is dead on at 294 yards. By the time the bullet has travelled 400 yards, it has dropped only 7.5 inches, is booking along at 2,650 fps and carries 1,980 foot-pounds of energy. Yeah, that’s flat.

270 wby mag $1699.

And thus begins the week long talk of gun control now...

Now you have me all interested in 6.5-300wby. I just wish they would make a nice vanguard model in it as I'm not sure I'm ready to jump into it with a 1700 dollar rifle.

If they had the accuguard or something like that in the caliber and I could get it for ~7-800 bucks I'd probably jump on it. It's a bit steep to get into, ammo looks like about 100 dollars a box and you'd probably want to have ~ 5 boxes so you could reload enough to have a solid range day....plus you would need a fairly nice scope on that 1700 dollar rifle.

Yikes. Just typing this out makes me realize I probably won't do it haha!!!

By "next" I mean I placed the order today.

So I just signed up for 15 consecutive 13 hour shifts, 8 of which are OT, at the end of the month, resulting in a an extra $4k net...

Battle Arms Development

Are these guys stuck kinda the way Spikes is? They can't build their barrels to meet the demand? Everywhere I look for the barrel I want they're sold out.

And what will be your next purchase?
Probably not something fit for this thread. Mulling over the idea of car parts, a new cyclocross bike or, most likely, it goes towards my trip to China with old work buddies, in February.

Are their barrels that special?

You're right. That's a good looking barrel. But $500+? The accuracy better be top of the food chain for that amount of coin.
I keep forgetting the price. Urgh.

I might just go to my local shop and go:
"This is what I want to do with it, this is my preferred length, I want the gas system this long, and if it's fluted that's a bonus. Find for me"

I wish I had good advice. One barrel I bought was a Daniel Defense because they have a good name and the sale price was spectacular. Nowhere near $500. I keep eyeballing a Colt Socom 14.5" for $185.

It's probably the most difficult part of a gun to pick out I am starting to think.

Sounds about right.
Like, at Midwest Industries, Brownells, and Tactical Shit I have my cart on each site with parts I want ready to go....

So, I have EVERYTHING but my optic, iron sight set (KINDA want some Knights Armament ones), upper receiver.... and my goddamn barrel and gas block

I would spring for a Noveske one but a lot of them come with those bullshit Noveske switchblocks that are pinned to the barrels and don't fit under most free float handguards.

Don't I have to like permanently pin the muzzle device to a 14.5 incher to avoid needing a SBR stamp?

Yes, you'd need to pin the muzzle device.

JP Enterprises is known to make good barrels. Price compares with Noveske I believe.

Dude where in China are you going. It would be cool to meet up for a beer.

I was also going to suggest to you that you use some of that $$$ to do a guided hunt, you'll learn a ton of stuff then you would be more ready to head out on your own with the new knowledge set.
