What is Trip-Hop?

Blue Lines, Dummy and Maxinqayue are THE definitive records of the period. Blue Mountain, Brizzle.

I was a student in the mid-90s when drum & bass and trip hop was at its peak. Used to knock off a beautiful blonde girl from Portishead who knew Geoff & Beth. She was the best, most ready-to-fuck girl I've ever known.

I've heard Portishead and I like the song "Glory Box" but I'm wondering what makes that song "Trip-Hop" as opposed to just being very sultry, sexy rock music?

Since I like Portishead and especially "Glory Box" could any of you suggest some other bands I might like that also have very sultry songs?
Glory Box is basically one long sample of either Barry White or Isaac Hayes, I can't remember. It isn't indicative at all of trip-hop, tbh.

If you're looking for sultry, Tori Amos, dude. If you're looking for more trip-hop, Massive Attack and Tricky (circa mid 90's), Bowery Electric, Sneaker Pimps.
