Western media outlets articles about elite muay thai fighters

Alexander Reynolds does indeed write some good articles.

Does Puenkon fight out of 13 Coins? I didn't think so. Also, I think he said that Puenkon was the undisputed king of the ring or something. That might be a bit of a stretch.

Also, "But it was Pernkun’s defeat of Prajanchai last week that ended a 14-month period of high profile robberies that confounded expectations and rejuvenated the Bangkok boxing scene." I don't know what he's talking about here, maybe it's true but it's news to me.

He trained at 13 coins, not sure if he is a regular there, though.

that part struck me as odd as well.

this author is very hit and miss IMO. he's lived and trained in Thailand for 10+ years so he can provide valuable insight but on the other hand he can write weird stuff like that. he's the only author whose articles I have to read on one tab and keep thefreedictionary.com open on the other.

Is he saying Purnkon has received favorable judging?

Robberies don't really exist in Muay Thai because those involved know how the fight is going all the way through. They know if they're ahead of behind and suspense only comes at the end of a close fight where both sides think they won, which means the fight was close. Those who support a particular fighter will be upset with the result, but the decision is not a robbery, just a slight lean to the other fighter. A robbery in Muay Thai would be a fight with 10-1 odds in an uneventful round 5 and the fighter ahead doesn't win. Such an example is rare or nonexistent as far as I know.

I read that article about Nokweed Davy, did he really kill a taxi driver with a head kick and get bailed out by the mafia?

It is a busboy not a taxi driver. Yep by headkick.
What happened exactly? He and the bus boy started to fight and the busboy landed unfortunately after the head kick? Or was it like the busboy was sitting all peacefully minding his own business and just gets kicked in the head out of nowhere?

Sorry it is actually a bus conductor not bus boy. They argued and things got heated and Nokweed headkicked him.

as weird and out of the blue and hard to figure out as that claim is, I don't read it as he's saying that Puenkon received favorable judging, but that there was a trend of bad judging in muay thai in the 14 months prior to Puenkon vs. Prajanchai. which is a pretty weird claim. what would be the "high profile" fights in that period that had questionable judging?

Mike Tyson is a convicted rapist and the world loves him. Just how it goes.

. Big difference between rape and murder. Also Tyson has never really escaped the rape case or the ear incident. Love is a bit of an overstatement. I would be shocked if when Tyson dies he isn't treated as a controversial figure with a criminal background.

This article makes it sound like killing someone is a minor offence, and getting bailed out by the mob is to be expected. Some context or explanation is missing.

I read another article about a Thai fighter that was in jail for murder and that one went in detail about how it was he was considered to be reformed. Apparently convicts can get their sentence reduced by fighting.

Rafi-Pongsiri

yeah good call.

I was pretty surprised by that decision but never gave it too much thought since I never know who's winning if the fight is close.

he was kidding since all the people in the yt comments were complaining about that decision because pongsiri was backing up a lot after he knocked him down but in reality pongsiri clearly won

Train them in hand-to-hand combat and release them early.

Sounds reasonable and safe.

oh wait...
They only get a reduced sentence usually when they have won a couple of tournaments or a string of pro fights in a row usually held at the prison. Amnat Ruenroeng got his sentence reduced and got out early from this program. They also had a woman that fights under the name Samson Sor Siriporn who won the wbc light flyweight world title from a fight held in the prison and she was granted her release for winning
