Which means he didn't just slap someone a few times, and they were physically fine.
He would've actually had to hurt them.

The state of Florida’s statute for Oezdemir’s charge says a person commits aggravated battery if he “intentionally or knowingly causes great bodily harm, permanent disability, or permanent disfigurement.”

The charges against Volkan are obviously much more serious. If Werdum had actually injured Colby, almost nobody would have complained about calling the cops.

Possibly assault.
Battery requires real physical harm, where assault does not.
(The mere threat of violence can be assault.)

Slaps could technically be labeled as battery as well.
However I do think you need to cause more injury than a temporary stinging cheek to be arrested for aggravated battery.
